But the anamorphic thing in S2 of Westworld is actually an aesthetic device and isn't there just because they couldn't afford to shoot on anas for the rest of it, it's to differentiate those scenes from the main time period.
You mean Star Trek Discovery? It's a series that I love, I own both season 1 and 2 on BD.
Picture quality on both seasons is just average, I expected much better picture quality from a high budget show from 2018/2019,some scene have what looks like video noise and some others even if there are not CGI FX look soft.

Anamorphic glass isn't always razor sharp from edge to edge. But it's got character and that's what I love about it.

I like it too,I can see the distorsions it induces like softness at the edges of screen and bending straight elements also.
I think the issues with both seasons of Star Trek Discovery may be related to postproduction, but I love the show and the FX are great so I can forgive an average picture quality.

I thought you said S2's encode looked much better than S1?

Yes it does but season 2 still hasits issues like some soft looking escenes and others that seemed to have something like video noise. Ina nutshell, Season 2 looks fine but it's not demo material picture wise.

I checked it and it's still a problem. It looks like the Dolby Atmos detects the white lettering from the subtitles and uses it to effect the image which causes an unnatural uptick in the colors. It looks like a UHD authoring mistake to me. I don't know if it's fixed on newer versions of the show but it is distracting and remains my only real complaint about season 2 overall.

Yeah, that's just a metadata goof plain and simple. Apparently this can happen with the first automated metadata pass which is why it needs proper QC, this one slipped through but I'm glad it doesn't affect the rest of the subtitled scenes.

Loving my reawatch of this , such a great series. Episode 8 is one of the boldest things I have seen in any series.
