The motion comic is great! But it is only half of the first season of the comic book; they never completed it. Still worth getting.

Motion comics aren't fully animated - they use the book art and lightly animate some motion. It is cheap and really quite wonderful.

I think we can call anything that doesn't re-use the Season 2 DVD menus a win.

Agreed!! Just give me a static image. I don't need a video game whenever I want to watch the show.

I’d love the dvd’s cemetery menu animation to be an easter egg on the bluray though. Sweeping past the cgi statues was awesome at the time (before everyone was in such a hurry).

It's been a while but I am currently working on new edits (color correction + "fake" grain).

Looks surprisingly good. Boy that fake grain is really necessary, isn't it? And you got just about the right amount IMO. Did you experiment at all with different grain sizes? Presumably the earlier 16mm footage wouldn't have such fine grain.

But then there's cropping and new VFX... one day you're going to have to go full Harmy on this, you know...

The shot from Graduation Day looks very good with the grain back on. I was really surprised at first.

Concerning the grain sizes I went this way:
- Season 2: stronger grain because of the 16mm original material, 6%.
- Faith, Hope & Trick, The Prom and Graduation Day: 3%.
- Amends: since this is a flashback I choose to give it slightly more grain, 4%.

Here are some new ones.
Season 1 is always a struggle since I want to keep the dark/gothic atmosphere without getting all the crushed blacks from the original version.

Are you using Color Matching tools or eyeballing it? DrDre's Color Matching tools are very much worth a look if you want something automated that may have the ability to help with the crush.

Eyeballing it. But I think it looks good enough!

No, I agree it looks good -- great even. But when you're doing this many shots for this many shows, automation can have other benefits.

Illuminate Hollywood used this kind of thing for The X-Files. The remaster is far better than Buffy's for sure. (Too bad they didn't do Buffy too.) So yes, that can be a great tool.

I only edit some screencaptures so I can do it without using automation (well, at least I'm trying haha) but when you have to work on HOURS of footage...

EDIT: I'm going to try DrDre's Color Matching tools out of curiosity. Thank you! I've never heard about it before.

Here is the result! Great job! Crushed blacks are fewer and the colors are matching the original version's. But I don't think it looks good by today's standards you know?

Top: my edit.
Bottom: DrDre's Color Matching.

But very nice tool! With an original source in better shape, I'm sure it works wonders!

Yay, another fan! The color matching can work in bulk by color matching one frame, creating a color lookup table based on that frame, and then applying that lookup table across the entire shot (shot by shot works best, but you could use bigger chunks). This method works best if you find a sample frame with strong primaries in it (red, blue, green). Otherwise the lookup table might not apply well across all of the frames.

As it stands, I think your colors are a little red in the skin tones, and the automated ones may be a little pasty. It depends a little bit on how much you trust the original DVDs, which honestly may not be ideal.

I tried to change it once again (that's the third time) because you are right. Too much red. My issue is that his hair is seriously greenish when there isn't enough red. But I think they used green lights in the Master's lair in order to create the gothic atmosphere (there is a green wall in Prophecy Girl).

Anyway, here it is. (Also, the pictures doesn't look the same on my computer screen vs my phone screen.)

Is it any better?

Thank you .
If there are some episodes or shots that you want me to try to fix next week, feel free to ask.
