Anyone try watching DVDs? Basically, I'm thinking I'd replace my DVD films with UHD, and only my favourite blu-ray films with UHD too.
The garbage in/garbage out rule (meaning source material used to produce the disc) applies to how improved a Blu-ray or DVD will look on a UHD player. Also keep in mind the Director's intent, photography and lighting will also have a impact on how well a Blu-ray or DVD looks on a UHD player. I have a Sony Master Series XBR-55A9G Smart OLED 4K UHDTV and a Sony UBP-X1100ES 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. I see a noticeable improvement with Blu-rays and a significant improvement with DVDs with quality source material.

I was really impressed with Apollo 13, I wouldn't say it was the best looking but it was much better then I had expected.

All the 4K remastered blu-ray looks great on a UHD player (to name a few, The Godfather's, Rocky, The Terminator, Robocop, Home Alone). Newer films too, for example Skyfall or Lone Survivor.

Ad Astra will make your screen come to life in it's fantastic space segments. However, IMO the movie itself was disappointing, especially after all of the advance marketing about Brad Pitt and his "best performance ever" statements. That it wasn't. I told my wife three times the movie was about to pick up, and just after the third time the ending credits began. But, some of the video is breathtaking.

If you are looking to "wow" your audience, put in Deepwater Horizon and turn it up.

Also, I like all 3 John Wicks, and the first Sicario, where the soundtrack makes that movie.

On A Star is Born, there is a live performance segment of Bradley Cooper (who is really singing and playing) and Lady GaGa on an outdoor stage that with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, the scene is really really good, so good it makes you feel as if you are hearing it live.

I'm a big fan of Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and sometimes even with a somewhat of a stinker of a movie, it can come across looking and sounding fantastic. And when you get a really good movie with the same DV and DA, well, you'll probably end up sitting thru it numerous times showing it off to friends and family.

This has got to be in my top favorites as well. Great restoration and the source material benefits a lot from HDR. It looks consistently amazing.

I find that very odd. Why would a great BD (except for the limited dynamic range) look bad on your screen? Do you have your TV calibrated? How large is your screen and how far do you sit from it, etc.?
