We don't yet know its release date. I Expect in time for Black Friday.

Note on s1, and hopefully season 2. The reviews for those who watched in Dolby Vision are much more positive then those that watched in HDR10.

E.g.

Might be time for one of the Blu-ray.com reviewers to revisit as they seem to now have some Dolby Vision reviews up.

In developing new looks for season two, Harris utilized a “bleach bypass” technique for the new “Shogun World” which retained the silver of the negative when processing the film
https://www.bydeluxe.com/en/get-to-k...ed-encore-hdr/

Quote:
In my Resolve color grade, I emulated a process called a “bleach-bypass” for Shogun World. “Bleach-bypass” is a process where the silver is retained in the emulsion. What results is reduced saturation and exposure latitude, like a black-and-white image over the original color image. You can only really get that kind of look with the “bleach-bypass” process. It gives Shogun World a totally distinct look that’s different than anything else you’ve seen in Westworld. There’s also The Raj that’s very warm and golden. These worlds have their own unique looks, and for some of the battle scenes, there’s a cool desaturated feel to the soldiers’ uniforms that make them look grey and silvery. So even certain types of sequences, like the battle sequences, have their own unique look and feel.

Native Dolby Atmos track from the start:

Quote:
Back in 2016, the showrunners and executive producers — including writer/director Jonathan Nolan and his wife/executive producer Lisa Joy — asked that we peel apart and remix the soundtrack to the immersive Atmos format” for both Blu-ray disc release and Internet streaming.

“The results worked well enough, but there were compromises in the left-right balance and placing certain elements within the immersive soundfield,” Rogers reveals. “It exposed aspects of the mix that we didn’t want the audience to hear! For that reason, the showrunners asked that for Season Two we prepare the master mix natively in Atmos format

Just want to say that S2E8 was absolutely incredible.

I lost a lot of interest in this show a few weeks ago. The writing is a mess. The storytelling and narration is incredibly poor. Yet I still love it for many reasons. It's a love/hate relationship. The Bernard storyline can seriously go to hell. But episodes 2, 5, and 8 were amazing. That's the Billy backstory, Shogun World, and "Take My Heart When You Go". Last week's episode was simply beautiful and surprised the hell out of me. It sure feels like they switch directors every single week. Can't wait to see what happens on this week's episode tonight.

Bernard world:
[Show spoiler]First it was: he's a host. Then it was: ok some of this is occurring in the past. Then it was: omg in some of these scenes he's actually Arnold. Then it's wow is all of it in his head? Next was, we have to explore the memories in his head to proceed. Now it's: there are a dozen Bernards we have no idea if anything is real. Some of it happened in the past, some didn't. Memories are incomplete hazy and glitched out. None of this matters or makes any coherent sense. Maybe it will take two or three viewings. It doesn't matter; it's still terrible storytelling any way you slice it.

The Bernard story has completely disappeared up its own *******. Thankfully Maeve and the other storylines carry the show.

Thank goodness Jonathan Nolan isn't like his brother when it comes to sound!! I think Chris is deaf.

It needs consistancy of writing quality. It's definitely all over the map from one episode to another. The last one was one of the best this season. If there is to be a Season 3, Nolan and Joy must get a handle on the narrative and weed out the weaker writers from the room.

Looking forward to this. I haven't watched Season 2 yet and I'd rather watch in UHD so I'm thankful it won't be too long.

Now I just need HBO to release other seasons of GoT...

This show is fast becoming the next Lost or BSG. The plotholes are rampant, as are the obvious rewrites and complete lack of any sense of scale. Season 2 was enjoyable enough but they really need some good consistent writing from now on.

I'm going to buy the 2nd season on UHD, but when it gets closer to the blu ray pricing. I did like S2 very much.

Thats my serious grunt. They need to release S2-S7 on UHD, so I can buy a box set.

that's the problem when you write season to season.

You have to invent new, strange plot devices. You introduce new main characters just to kill them off. The next season's story ends up being mostly invented and has little to do with the original's intentions. That's the problem when you don't have a major overarching multi-season story arc in mind from the start.

Here you can see they already had a vague framework of what they wanted to do. But then implementing that into an interesting story, and extrapolating it over the course of a full season is difficult work.

Didn't watch live like season one because the HBO Now quality was awful for a show that is getting a 4K release but this is a fantastic recommendation, thanks! Can't wait.

So I'm guessing they're not doing the steel tin for Season 2. Seems season 2 is getting mixed reactions some people liked it some not so much. I'll probably wait till the price goes down.

It does some amazing things and some stupid things, and is kinda a mess. Overall I'm certainly eager for at least another season.
