Considering it almost never happens on the UHD version, it's an impressive master.

Had a look at the specs for the aussie 4k release and found that this is a port of the european 4k disc which will only have the player generated titles. For the price I paid($7.5 on amazon) its still worth it imo

One thing I find interesting is no one here discussed the original stereo track.

Honestly it sounds marvelous and MILES better than the stereo track on the original 2011 release. I don't know if Universal completely remastered it (despite it not being the default and lossy) or just simply encoded it much better. But I noticed it had far more separation and a deeper bass level compared to the 2011 release. Even the downscale transfer had a very good sounding stereo track. Hell it could almost be mistook for a lossless track, so that makes you wonder what it would sound like if it were actually lossless.

Regarding the DTS: X mix though, not a fan of it, it's a repurpose of the 7.1 track from the past versions and it doesn't have as much of an impact due to the original mix being very hot and its impact being almost completely eliminated in the remix. Also all of the sound effects sound cheesy and from a video game in comparison to the original stereo mix.

it is just me or is the bluray 1080 better?
i feel the 4k is too dark, so now its like which one is original?
in the house where Tony brings the coke to lopez their suits are way darker, and franks white suit is more cream than white, but on the 1080 bluray his suit is white!!
and the other guys suits are lighter... thats one example.

so.. I dont know ..are we suppose to reference it from the original theatrical release?
or the VHS everyone first saw it? LOL
with all these new releases of films on new formats, colors are being manipulated!
so I want to know if the Cinematographers original intentions have now been changed with some kids in a studio making dvds!

I finally got around to watching this one last night. Man what a gorgeous looking disc. I have not seen this movie in more then a decade probably. I can't really remember when the last time I watched it was. The Miami colors just looked so good. I love this movie so much. It still holds up to me. It put me in the mood to watch Carlito's Way again. Wish they would put that one in 4K.

Thumbs up

Yeah I agree the 4k version is just jaw dropping it's definitely one of the best looking remasters Iv'e seen on the format. Universal did an incredible job with this one.

Question

I don't own a 4K UHD Disc player, but I do have a 4K UHD TV from Samsung. What I'm trying to say is this: Does the 4K UHD version of SCARFACE seem a tiny bit darker than the remastered 1080p Blu-ray? I saw screenshots of it on caps-a-holic.com, and if you hover above the image, it's looks like the remastered 1080p Blu-ray is brighter than the UHD.

HDR to SDR conversion for screencaps tend to make 4K discs look darker they actually are.

For instance:

So, the 4K UHD of SCARFACE might be a little brighter?

UHD/HDR in general has better contrast, so it means it's both brighter and darker. More of both, with expanded range in all areas of the spectrum.

And that's not even proper conversion in mocomongo's post, the guy was watching ripped videos on a ****ing iPad and then wondering why it looked like shit. That Supes cap doesn't even look like it's had an SDR transform applied to it at all, the guy didn't have a clue.

Oh, wow. I was just skimming the thread several minutes prior and came across that example, I missed that part.

Vudu doesn’t have this title in 4K/UHD. You will have to watch it from MA, iTunes or FandangoNow. Unless you redeemed the code at Vudu, then you don’t have the 4K rights. The 4k code can only be redeemed at MA or FNow for 4K rights.

OMG! finally got around to watching this almost 3 hour epic gangster movie last night. I had seen it before a few times actually but I always super blazed out at a friends or something so I never got to really see the amazing details in this film. I actually like that it's a bit darker than from how I've seen it before. Al Pacino as Tony Montana is some of the best acting I have seen in recent memory. I know some people say this movie is super overrated but I find it to be one of the most epic films out of all gangster/crime films.

The part that blew me away the most was the DTS mix going on for me, the soundtrack came alive legendary in the club scenes and traveling to Bolivia. So so good.
