Woman can do the equivalent; anyone can.
So toxic femininity or women who are toxically masculine?

Yeah, I really don't think it applies to this one.

When I think of the term Toxic Masculinity, I think of the truly toxic male behaviors that lead to a Harvey Weinstein. Sure, repressing emotion could be part of that math with the
[Show spoiler]alienation of a wife and inability to be a good father, but I think those are in separate categories.

Mob movies/shows are usually a good representation of toxic masculinity and the good ones offer some type of critique, I didn't get that perspective from ad astra. I hate that term though, its as silly as most of the modern buzz terms, cancel culture, social justice warrior etc etc. They're stupid.

The Atmos track on this film was pretty great. I have a pretty basic 5.1.2 setup but you could really sense the movements in the height channels at the beginning and the film overall just had some great atmosphere and music.

The opening action scene would make some good demo material, great visuals, sound and really intense situation.

And the bass was epic!!

I watched this today and thought it was pretty damn good.

The previous pages of this thread look interesting and I should read them.
I thought Pitt's character was extremely brave and resourceful.

Brad Pitt playing a brave and resourceful character? Sounds like a real stretch for him.

Pretty sure the reference was for Pitt's character not Pitt.

Iím not his agent so have no input on his roles.
There are much better comments in this thread than mine to single out.

Question for y'all, I've just got my system set up, 4k OLED, Atmos sound, but I'm new to 4k.

This week, I see Apple is selling a digital 4k copy of Ad Astra for $10. I haven't seen the movie yet, am interested, but was waiting for the price of the 4k disk to come down from $25.

I have an Apple TV 4k, presumably I could save myself some money by buying the digital copy for $10, but is the streaming tech good enough? It boasts 4k visuals and Atmos sound, so it should be comparable to the disk, but I'm a little hesitant, was wondering if someone here has a more educated opinion on whether streaming is "there" yet. I know I might get a hiccup or two that I wouldn't get with physical media, but I'd like to know if they can actually deliver on 4k/Atmos or not. I've got internet speed 100mbps.

It is good enough but I'd still rather have the disk if one is available for the higher bitrate. You could then sell the digital code that comes with it and the blu ray if you really wanted to save some money. I only buy digitally when it's available in 4K digitally but not on UHD disc (or English friendly disc) like Parasite for a recent example.

It is not as good as the disc. Streaming is good. Streaming looks good, but you're still going to deal with more compression from the streaming service than you would on disc. Even with all the internet speed in the world, you're still limited to what the streaming service outputs at, which is to say it's not going to be at a full bitrate bandwidth per second like the disc. Streaming doesn't do lossless audio either, it maybe atmos, but not at a full lossless audio quality because, again, bandwidth restrictions.

Being new to 4K, if you're not particularly picky, it will likely look good enough, hell, even maybe look amazing to you. So YMMV on whether or not you want to just go with the streaming service or buy physical disc.

Gave this movie a second watch tonight and it really clicked with me this time.

Going in knowing what kind of film this is and the tone it carried throughout really made me it enjoy it a whole lot more.

I finally watched this over the weekend and enjoyed it. I didn't really get all of the boring comments I had read. I thought the pacing was nearly flawless. This line resonated with me more than any other:

"He could only see what was not there and missed what was right in front of him."
