Source?

And Sony doesn't even have the rights for the movie anymore. This is an MGM title

There's a 4K DCP floating around and you don't normally do a 4K DCP of a film that wasn't finished at 4K. I know that it's an MGM title but Sony did the remaster long ago.

Well, that's interesting. I would be even more interested if Sony was making this disc. Let's see what happens.

The only example of a 2K DI re-done I can think of, is Bad Boys II - also by Sony

Sony doesnt need to make and distribute the disc to use Sony's remaster. Studios sometimes use other restorations if its recent. Even Criterion does it.

And there have been a lot of true 4K releases of catalogue films.

Yes, for movies without a DI, that means movies made before 2002 or so

I buy 4K discs only when a new (better) source master/transfer is available. If the source master is the same, no point for me

That's just my opinion
Wait. Wait. Gotta bite. This isn't just an "upscale" misnomer you're running with. You seriously don't consider purchase of ANY catalog 4K (native scans) because its also "revisionist" use of HDR, just checking your stance because it's classic you expect to be taken seriously in here, opinion or not

...guess you have never heard of Sean Connery then, huh!

That's how I feel, too.

If others are happy re-buying titles for HDR, that's good for them.

To each their own.

But I prefer to upgrade only genuine 4K masters and I see no point sneering at this.

This has the potential to look and sound stunning. Remember back in the days when I lived in Japan, most of the shops had clips from this to showcase the Full HD TVs.

That's not what I said. Studios are forcing me to buy UHD discs with HDR to get access to the latest transfers. So I don't have any choice in the matter

But if the source master is a 2K DI, I have the choice to keep what I have and forget about HDR that is always revisionist by definition as it became a thing in late 2015.

Dude the BD is from 2007, even at 2K there's a lot more room for improvement.

Knowing FOX, they will not touch the audio.

If it bothers you, why don't you just go into your player and/or TV settings and turn HDR off?
