Default The BLIND BUY thread

Hi all. I thought this might be an interesting thread.
What discs have you bought blind, or what have you been thinking about blind buying? I think I have only done this to one 4K disc, which was the Steelbook of the latest Predator movie. I really like the packaging, but the movie...not so much. I usually wait to rent a movie before I purchase, which of course, can be a little wasteful.
So, what have your experiences been on the topic (good, bad and ugly)?
Thanks.

Escape from New York, The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. Didn't regret them. I would rate each of the movies 7/10 (Good) after my first watch.

I blind-buy a ton of sci-fi/fantasy and blockbuster action stuff. I never really regretted it, because film was my main hobby and I liked having a "collection" of such things. Lately I feel less attached, so I've got a little of that "staring at the collection wondering WTF I'm doing" vibe. It'll probably come back around though, it usually does.

As for recent ones... Gemini Man this week. Solid little action movie, but nothing special. A normal person would be just fine with a rental. 6/10ish.

Probably 1/3 of all the UHDs I’ve bought. Not about to list all 100+ titles, but this format has turned me into a blind-buying fool.

I try not to blind buy these days unless I know it's something that's going to 100% interest me. I'm more willing to do it with Blus but due to the cost of UHDs, I kinda want to know what I'm getting into.

3 from Hell - 5/10
Alita: Battle Angel - 6/10
Annihilation - 7/10
Apollo 11 - Unwatched
Aquaman - Unwatched
Bohemian Rhapsody - 7/10
Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - Unwatched
First Man - 8/10
Get Out 7/10
Hereditary - 8/10
Interstellar - 8/10
John Wick - 7/10
John Wick 2 - 7/10
John Wick 3 - 7/10
Logan - 7/10
Mad Max: Fury Road - 7/10
The Martin - 7/10
Oblivion - Unwatched
The Revenant - 8/10
The Shape of Water - 7/10
Shazam - Unwatched
Sicario - 8/10
Sicario - Day of the Soldado - 8/10
Straight Outta Compton - 7/10
Trainspotting 2 - 8/10
Three Billboards - 8/10
Us - Unwatched
Wonder Woman - 7/10

OK, yeah. After listing them out, I've bought way too many blindbuys. No real stinkers yet thankfully.

All my purchases have been blind so far since the films I'm waiting for that I've already seen and want on the format have yet to be released.

Edit: there may be one or two exceptions but that's typically how it's been so far.

You should certainly plug in Shazam and AquaMan...both of those have excellent PQ/AQ.

I see 50 or so movies at the theater each year and only purchase those that have multiple replay value to me. I have bought a few blind buys for HDR Value, based on these reviews.

I just did a blind buy of 1941. It was the low price and feature-length documentary that caught my attention. It'll be here in a day or two and my expectations are tempered.

Try to limit my blind buying as much as possible but still find myself doing it quite often. Will just mention my fav blind buy in recent memory was Zhang Yimou's Shadow. Enjoyed the story and fight/training sequences a lot along with the UHD's nice PQ and AQ, it looked and sounded very good to me.

Catalogue titles I'd say 1/3 are blind-buys, new movies are all blind-buys.

This is why I have Amazon still...streaming Spaghetti Westerns and new junk. Plus they have almost every blu ray and 4k blu ray when I want to order. Wish there was a better company but it's always been like this.
