I did notice one thing though. While I don't use the Invelos hosted version of my online collection I did check it out just now. What I found is that none of my local profile data is being used for any of my profiles. (This was never the case prior.) So currently, if an Invelos version of the profile exists that data is displayed. If an Invelos version of the profile doesn't exist no data is displayed. It's just a blank entry.

Again, I don't use the Invelos hosted version of my online collection, but just thought I'd share my observation. Looks to me like there's still some things for Invelos to sort out. Well, unless the change is intentional and happened prior to the outage and I'm only noticing it now. I don't check out the Invelos hosted version of my online collection very often, so that could possibly be the case, but I doubt it.

Checked the Invelos version of my online collection again just now. I had left the browser tab open from earlier. All my local profile data I had uploaded is showing up now, so it looks like they got that piece working again.

Seems like there's some problems with Invelos/DVD Profiler again...
"HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable."

It's been down all day. I hope it's just a temporary hickup...

I don't use the Invelos online database, but noticed the server was down when going to add a profile locally. The website "www.isitdownrightnow.com" states that Invelos.com is currently down for maintenance.

I wish it didn't lock up the software just because the server is down. Not a good thing.

It only hangs the initial time on a fresh launch of the application. To avoid that just disconnect from the Internet temporarily prior to accessing the "DVD\Add to Collection" option.

I was able to add several titles to my collection day before yesterday. Was somewhat slow, but worked.

Was going to add more today, but if offline, guess I'll have to hope it comes back up.

I first noticed it being down on Saturday 5/28 around midday. So down a little bit longer than usual this time.

There should be a pop-up error window that needs to be cleared to continue, this for some reason it appears underneath the status window so you need to move the windows around a bit to get at it. (this may vary by OS tho)

Another particularly annoying issue that may arise is that if the local copy of the online database index is damaged or missing (e.g. new install), it will be impossible to ever bring up the 'add' window at all. To fix this one must have a backup of, or acquire from another user, the *.DOD and *.XOD files and place in the "\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\DVD Profiler" folder. (these six files were enough to get my brief test clean install to run, tho possibly not all are actually needed...) It doesn't matter how current they are, just needs to be present in order to open the 'add' function.
As that path suggests, this is a per-user item, so other accounts using Profiler on that system will also need this manual patch.
It is probably wise to make a full backup of that folder now, just in case...

I did notice their whole site being excessively slow Friday and early Saturday, finally crashing sometime that afternoon. IIRC, the servers are (or were, years ago) located at the Cole's residence/home office, so the way things got slow and eventually stopped to me suggests to me some sort of system breakdown, as I'd expect a service shutdown to be near instantaneous if they decided to quit.
Unfortunately communications from them have been about zero for the last five years, even for other outages, so I doubt we'll see any announcements now one way or the other... just the hope that they will get back online sometime soon.

Every other month or so I zip up the root of my "C:\Users\...\AppData\Local\DVD Profiler" directory uploading the file to my secure website. The file can be download here for anyone who might need it per the prior post.

this site checks the status of DVDprofiler. I find it easier to check there than keep trying to update my collection and getting an error.

My DVD Profiler database resides on my local PC and is backed up monthly. If I need to restore my database I do so locally. If I want to update my database I do so locally. Every one of my local profiles is locked down. I don't allow the Invelos online database to update my local profiles and if I need to add a profile I have no problem creating one from scatch if need be. It doesn't take that long.

I update the mobile apps locally as well. I sync the mobile apps with DVD Profiler for PC across my local network. I don't allow the Invelos online database to play the middleman. I can perform a sync across the Internet as well as I route all DVD Profiler port traffic to the PC that runs DVD Profiler 24/7.

I also host my own phpDVDProfiler based website. It's far more feature rich than the free view of one's collection provided by Invelos. If the Invelos online database never came back online I won't bat an eye. Twenty years from now I'll still be cataloging my DVD's and Blu-ray's in DVD Profiler. That's the beauty of this product. There are no strings. No online activation. No Invelos database required.

hmm. I lock my profiles, too, but always add via the update feature. Guess I could start adding titles myself, but at the rate I buy them and the work it takes to add one (at least for me), I might end up using an alternative like AllMyMovies instead.

Let's hope DVDprofiler is not down for good.

Time will tell.

I also lock all my profiles. I also create profiles when I need to. And, I can scan my covers when needed.

What I miss is viewing my "on-line collection" from my phone, as I use it when buying new movies, to avoid buying duplicates.

If the Invelos site does does not come back up, I would like to explore the option of using phpDVDProfiler.

I think I'm finally ready to ditch DVDProfiler. I've been using it since before Invelos came about, but I've only relied on it as a backup for the last year or so. I've found that the Blu-ray.com app works for basic upkeep, but I've really enjoyed the Collectorz app and Windows client. Adding new titles is a lot easier, and I don't miss dealing with the more acrimonius and rule-happy users from DVDProfiler.

We all knew Ken had abandoned the program, so I don't see this as a loss. It's been buggy and out-dated for quite a while.

Good luck to you all!

I would love to start using something else, as it seem DVD Profiler's days are numbered. The problem is, I have 6500 entries in DVD Profiler, and would hate to start from scratch with something new. I can't imagine there is way to transfer things to a different program.

I use the Blu-ray collection feature too as a backup but it's becoming more and more not an option since you can no longer accurately keep a list of the releases you have. With the site seemingly making decisions where you can't profile the version of a title you have and no one willing to chime in as to the decisions made I'm not seeing it as a viable option any longer. It's just makes one's collection less and less accurate over time.

It's unfortunately Ken hasn't put forth the effort to simply let users know what's going on even though he seems to visit the Invelos site frequently.

The Collectorz Movie app can import your DVDProfiler database very easily! It had no problem with my 3K titles at all. The only downside to that option is that the program is subscription-based, so there is a cost.
