Well, 8 hours later and it's still online. A good sign.
![]() I did notice one thing though. While I don't use the Invelos hosted version of my online collection I did check it out just now. What I found is that none of my local profile data is being used for any of my profiles. (This was never the case prior.) So currently, if an Invelos version of the profile exists that data is displayed. If an Invelos version of the profile doesn't exist no data is displayed. It's just a blank entry. Again, I don't use the Invelos hosted version of my online collection, but just thought I'd share my observation. Looks to me like there's still some things for Invelos to sort out. Well, unless the change is intentional and happened prior to the outage and I'm only noticing it now. I don't check out the Invelos hosted version of my online collection very often, so that could possibly be the case, but I doubt it. Last edited by AmishParadise; 01-06-2022 at 07:43 PM. |

Seems like there's some problems with Invelos/DVD Profiler again...
![]() "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." It's been down all day. I hope it's just a temporary hickup... |

Another particularly annoying issue that may arise is that if the local copy of the online database index is damaged or missing (e.g. new install), it will be impossible to ever bring up the 'add' window at all. To fix this one must have a backup of, or acquire from another user, the *.DOD and *.XOD files and place in the "\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\DVD Profiler" folder. (these six files were enough to get my brief test clean install to run, tho possibly not all are actually needed...) It doesn't matter how current they are, just needs to be present in order to open the 'add' function. As that path suggests, this is a per-user item, so other accounts using Profiler on that system will also need this manual patch. It is probably wise to make a full backup of that folder now, just in case... ![]() I did notice their whole site being excessively slow Friday and early Saturday, finally crashing sometime that afternoon. IIRC, the servers are (or were, years ago) located at the Cole's residence/home office, so the way things got slow and eventually stopped to me suggests to me some sort of system breakdown, as I'd expect a service shutdown to be near instantaneous if they decided to quit. Unfortunately communications from them have been about zero for the last five years, even for other outages, so I doubt we'll see any announcements now one way or the other... just the hope that they will get back online sometime soon. |

this site checks the status of DVDprofiler. I find it easier to check there than keep trying to update my collection and getting an error.

I update the mobile apps locally as well. I sync the mobile apps with DVD Profiler for PC across my local network. I don't allow the Invelos online database to play the middleman. I can perform a sync across the Internet as well as I route all DVD Profiler port traffic to the PC that runs DVD Profiler 24/7. I also host my own phpDVDProfiler based website. It's far more feature rich than the free view of one's collection provided by Invelos. If the Invelos online database never came back online I won't bat an eye. Twenty years from now I'll still be cataloging my DVD's and Blu-ray's in DVD Profiler. That's the beauty of this product. There are no strings. No online activation. No Invelos database required. |

hmm. I lock my profiles, too, but always add via the update feature. Guess I could start adding titles myself, but at the rate I buy them and the work it takes to add one (at least for me), I might end up using an alternative like AllMyMovies instead.
Let's hope DVDprofiler is not down for good. Time will tell. |

What I miss is viewing my "on-line collection" from my phone, as I use it when buying new movies, to avoid buying duplicates. If the Invelos site does does not come back up, I would like to explore the option of using phpDVDProfiler. Last edited by zappman; 05-31-2022 at 09:20 PM. Reason: correct typo |

I think I'm finally ready to ditch DVDProfiler. I've been using it since before Invelos came about, but I've only relied on it as a backup for the last year or so. I've found that the Blu-ray.com app works for basic upkeep, but I've really enjoyed the Collectorz app and Windows client. Adding new titles is a lot easier, and I don't miss dealing with the more acrimonius and rule-happy users from DVDProfiler.
We all knew Ken had abandoned the program, so I don't see this as a loss. It's been buggy and out-dated for quite a while. Good luck to you all! |

I would love to start using something else, as it seem DVD Profiler's days are numbered. The problem is, I have 6500 entries in DVD Profiler, and would hate to start from scratch with something new. I can't imagine there is way to transfer things to a different program.

It's unfortunately Ken hasn't put forth the effort to simply let users know what's going on even though he seems to visit the Invelos site frequently. |
