Default Would Amazon ever remove purchased content?

Like for example a license expires?

There's probably something in the terms to say they can do whatever the heck they like, but I do you think it is likely Amazon would ever remove content against your will from your purchased library?

Reason I ask is I am starting to buy a lot of Amazon Video lately due to good deals. Mainly stuff where I'm not that fussy about AV quality and can save some shelf space (TV shows). I mainly want to know if in 10 years i will still have access to all my content.

Their terms for service do give them the option to remove things or restrict access if their deals with the distributors change or end, but from my experience, it hasn't been a concern so far anyways.

I've been purchasing video content from them for about 7 years- I now have over 700 television seasons and about 400 movies through them- and have never lost access to any of them. I've noticed a couple items, such as a couple tv seasons, are no longer available to purchase through them, but I can still play the episodes I purchased.

They've done it before with digital books, there's no reason to believe it couldn't happen with video purchases.

Do you mean the incident 9 years ago where they deleted bootleg copies of several titles that someone had uploaded to the Kindle store and after which they got called on the carpet for and promised to not do it again, or something more recent?

At least with Kindle books you can download them to a hard drive much easier than video.

That's good to know, thanks. I'm making a list of everything I've purchased just in case they do the dirty without telling me, and I might not realise

It seems unlikely that Amazon will be able to continue to pay for the rights to all the content they have forever which is part of the reason I would never purchase a download to keep.
In the UK the BBC Store closed down and everyone got refunds and lost their content.
I fully expect the same to happen with a variety of Itunes and Amazon content at some point in the future. Neither will pay for the rights to content that eventually stops selling.

If downloads are to succeed they need to allow buyers to copy the material from one device to another so that in the event Amazon lose it you can still watch it.

??? They aren't paying for the rights to the things they sell, the consumer who "buys" it is paying for individual rights. They are just facilitating the DRM/sales/viewing of said content for their partner studios. Shutting down the store entirely or them licensing content for a streaming service like Prime are of course something different.

Just watch and enjoy your movies whenever you can because, tomorrow is not promised to any of us, we all live day by day. Nobody knows what's going to happen the very next day! To predict what's going to happen in the 10 years, only God knows.

I used to work in a video rental store in the early '90s. My boss always used to tell me, "One of these days... bang! You're going to get hit by a bus!" Thankfully, they let me rent three movies for free every night.

It has happened to me once (that I noticed I should say). It was with episodes of I Love Lucy, they originally sold full seasons before they packaged them up in the The Best Of volumes that they have now and while the original seasons and episodes where showing in "My Video Library" when you went to play the owned episodes it say the content was no longer available from the Licensor or something to that affect despite the same episodes being on sale. Amazon did refund me for all the purchases once I brought it to there attention but I recall it being a bit of an ordeal to get the refund. I save all invoices I get now from Amazon when I make digital purchases.
