Default Sony CT770 Soundbar

Just picked up my new soundbar. So far I am liking it. I just had a few questions about soundbar and sub placement. I know you're not suppose to place the sub in a corner but I currently have it near a corner pointing diagonally. Is that why it's a bit too punchy at times? And does anyone have a general EQ set up recommendations?
