Analogue out, with proper audiophile grade inbuilt DAC for SACD and TrueHD/MA decoding, is a requirement for myself.

Also Sony players have stupid Dolby Vision implementation which requires manual intervention. Deal breaker.

I'm pretty ignorant about DACs in general, but couldn't you buy a Sony 800 M2 and a high-quality multichannel DAC for less than the price of a Magnetar? And be able to use the Dac for other things as well.

And personally, I find the lack of automatic DV switching hard to believe, but just a minor annoyance.

I'm finding it difficult to track down a good quality and reasonably priced HDMI (digital) to 8-channel RCA/phono (analogue) DAC.

Yeah, I don't think they exist, more or less. There's a market for players with fancy DACs, such as the Oppo BDP-205 and the most expensive Panasonic one. Otherwise there are, of course, AVRs.

There are some but their audio quality is not known. Sadly the good quality multi-channel DAC's are really expensive. Costing more than the original OPPO UDP-203

It also doesn't help that devices offering USB input DAC's only support 2-channels...

And there's the rub!

Like a lot of people with existing analogue audio set-ups, I don't want a huge AVR with loads of inputs and confusing features I'll never use!
