Default Should I be hearing dialogue in my surround speakers?

I apologize in advance for what I'm sure is a stupid question.

I recently purchased a Playstation 4 and while watching a Blu-ray on it for the first time I noticed that the dialogue was outputting to my 2 surround speakers. This seems odd to me because when I watch a movie on the player included in my HTiaB the dialogue seems to be outputting almost exclusively through the front speaker. I've played around with the audio settings in both the PS4 audio menus and the audio menu on the Blu-ray itself and can't for the life of me get the audio to output any other way.

Am I wrong in thinking that 5.1 audio should send dialogue through the center speaker almost entirely? Any help or experience would be huge. Thanks!

Yes most of the dialogue will come out of the center speaker. Personally I would try a movie and see which speaker the dialogue comes out of.

Do you have your receiver set to pure direct? I had the same problem you had. Some non 5.1 movies would output to all speakers. Once I changed the setting to pure direct the problem stopped.

Is this a setting I find on the receivers menu or on the console?

Stream direct is a mode you will find on your receiver. It's on my Pioneer receiver. When your hearing dialogue out of the back do you have the receiver on a DSP mode if so the receiver is trying to create sound that isn't supposed to be in that channel, and that is probably why your getting sound out of the rear channels.
