Pioneer htp071 - onkyo hts3405 - onkyo htx22hdx

Long time poster in these forums, first time posting in the HT threads

Simple question, out of these three packages which one would offer the best performance?

Pioneer HTP071 £249.95

Onkyo HTS3405 £289.95

Onkyo HTX22HDX £199.99

Here's a bit of background info.

Right now I have an Onkyo HTX22HD 5.1 set up.

But I feel it lacks that extra oomph that I would like. Max Power : 40 W....

I'm taking delivery of a new TV on the 13th and need a reciever that supports HDMI 1.4 so I can pas through a 3D signal, my current set up is limited to HDMI 1.3.

My first thought was to upgrade to the HTX22HDX as I already have the extra speakers to take advantage of 5.1 but this will only increase my Max Power to 50 W.

My ideal budget is £250 which is where the Pioneer lands. And also offers the highest Max Power output of 100 W. With the added bonus of the reciever and Sub being seperate.

The Onkyo is a bit more than I would like to pay and has a slightly les Max Power output of 85 W.

So I was looking for opinions from some of you guys that are much more clued up about this stuff than I am. I'm leaning towards the Pioneer, but the slightly more expensive Onkyo has me in two minds. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about the Onkyo receivers, but I recently bought the Pioneer. The sound is really good and it supports all the audio formats. Problem is that I had nothing but problem making it work together with my LG 3D tv. It doesn't support CEC properly, so controlling it with the TV remote is not possible. Also it does not support ARC well, although the option is there. But the biggest problem I had was that every time I start a BD or DVD disk on my PS3, the TV looses the video signal (not audio). I'm not sure if it is a defect or just bad design. I returned the set to the shop. I would not recommend it to anyone.

I'm going to stick to the Onkyo I think, they have always been good to me in the past

I would go for the Pioneer HTP-071. I heard it in action and I was blown away by the sound. Very good. I have mine on order and will be getting it in about 2 weeks or so.

I have the Pioneer HTP-071 , sounds excellent. Got it on sale too!

I picked up my HTP 071 yesterday and hooked it all up and I am very impressed with the sound and the bass. Everything works excellent with no issues at all. Money well spent yet again for my HT setup.
