I prefer disc.

My copy of Ten Commandments 4K on disc arrived today for review. I am excited to watch it but will most likely have to wait until the weekend. The only bummer I can see that it does not have immersive audio just a DTS lossless 5.1 track.

The good news is that it has Dolby Vision. It's derived from the 2010 6K restoration. In fact, I actually saw this 6K restoration back in 2010 at Paramount Studios with Heston's son (the baby in the basket in the opening sequence) introduce the film. It looked and sounded great then and will no doubt look and sound great now. Yul Brynner always cracks me up in this film.

There is no charm in fishing. It’s a cruel, smelly hobby.

Au contraire

It's a great hobby! The outdoors - breathing in that fresh air, getting exercise, takes patience and skill and you can buy tons of stuff.

Beats hiding in a dark room watching movies any day of the week.

I used to enjoy fishing.

My uncle had a boat when I lived in Miami.

Recently I went fishing on a lake with a friend and it was catch and release and I didn't think it was fun enough to justify harming the fish.

I don't feel like I'm hiding when I watch a movie. I do prefer a dark room because I do prefer a projector.

Nothing beats watching a movie for me in terms of hobbies, nothing at all. Then again, you are a digital fan so you aren’t as passionate!

Home Theater is my favorite hobby as well.

It can be much more than watching a movie. There is something in HT for just about anyone. There's DIY projects or there's managing contractors. There's system design and optimization. And maybe the most interesting part is it's something that still evolves and changes.

Well,... for the most part evolves... sometimes it just changes. New light sources for projectors like lasers is evolution but short throw projectors sacrificing quality for ease of installation is not quite positive. Same with ATMOS sound bars, falls a bit short of better. For some, easier is better.

For some, inserting a disc is a chore. That’s where we are at sadly. Quality is king for me.

The aroma of pizza beats the outdoors for me!

No . . . I am a fishing fan. Once again you have come to the wrong conclusion - a common occurrence for you. Could be a symptom of the rapid devotion you have for physical media. See a doctor if you can.

The way things are in my area, I will be dead before seeing my doctor.

It is so weird to me that people come on a movie collecting forum preaching how much better it is to go outdoors.

It would be kinda like going on a hunting forum telling someone to come inside more often and get away from all the animal killing.

Then again, I guess it isn't less relevant than the irony of coming on that same bluray forum and saying it is "rapid devotion" to physical media that is in need of a doctor?

Surely they are more DEG pie charts to read somewhere if you look hard enough?

I see the current UK stats as 37.4% have first dose but only 2.5% are fully vaccinated. Lot of trepidation I sense. Enjoy all the media you can watch and if safe the fresh air also.
The states are only 21.98% one dose, 11.89% fully vaccinated as of today.
Canada is 7.01% one dose, 1.61% fully vaccinated as of today.

Perhaps some people still don't get it, from playing it safe.

We spend/have spent much more on RV's and other travel vehicles than on home theater but I would never advocate that others do the same on a site that caters to home theater enthusiasts.

I wish I could say the same. One day. I think that is when the collection goes up for sale. For now, it is serves me fine, and anything I get after all this fun is just icing on the cake.

Of course I say all that, but I may just keep everything till the day I die. Money never really mattered to me, just enough to fuel my habits!

As things stand now, the over 60's have had their first dose and are now about to start vaccinating the over 50's. I'll be 55 next month (I guess I'm the old man on ths forum ) so I've been told to expect a notification to come in for my first jab.

Both my mother and father, who are in their late 80's, are due for their 2nd vaccine fairly shortly after having their first one right at the end of January. I remember on the first night after his first jab my dad saying he was feeling very cold, so he went to bed a bit earlier than usual. However by the morning he was fine, so it must have been a short term effect of the vaccine I suppose. My mother on the other hand was fine with no side effects whatsoever.

I work in social care and I haven’t received my first vaccine yet.
