Default Onkyo HTIB

I'm in the process of getting my media room together (slowly but surely) but I've been keeping an eye out on surround and tvs. We were at Frys today and they have this set: http://www.frys.com/product/8498698?...%20date:072416
If I read the ad correctly, they'll pay tax on the in store purchase. I'm not ready to hook it up yet (still have painting to do) but it seems like a pretty good deal, especially a starter set. I've never had surround sound, so I'm far from an audiophile And this set looks like one that could be upgraded as time goes on. Does this look like something to jump on? Is it about right and I shouldn't worry about a price jump soon? Or just look at something else altogether?

I have an Onkyo HT-S9400 and I can tell it does everything it is supposed to do and very well for a budget system. It sounds beautiful to my ears!!! now, if you are willing to pay over $1000 for a receiver and speakers that sometimes can cost you more than the receiver itself, I would not buy the HTIB. I would spend the money on a higher end model.

How big is your room?

What is your budget?

Thanks.

Room is about 10 1/2 X 13 feet. I was just gonna do a sound bar since it would be cheaper and I didn't think I had the space. But I decided a 5.1 system will fit and it will be better overall. I'm willing to spend about $1000 on my sound system. Might go a little higher if I find something really worth it.

I personally would suggest to go bigger spend the money. I ended up buy htib the previous model that you're looking at. I enjoyed it so much that I ended up upgrading my equipment in 6 months or so. I would spend the money on a nice receiver. Keep an eye out at frys. They always have deals on the infinity speakers primus 363s. The only other big expense will be the woofer. I snagged the towers for 99 a piece then my 4 bookshelves for I think 69 or 79. The only other thing that is gonna is like I said the sub. If your willing to wait and piece together you can probably do it pretty nicely for 1400-1500 maybe less but won't hit your budget all at once. Oh and the center will run you a bit. Personal opinion stick with onkyo receiver. Again my opinion. If you look at my theatre pics those are the speakers. Btw way old that system is still at my parents until I can get a house. I have a complete different set now Bic America pl-980 and matching sides rear center. But I still love the quality of the primus 363. I think it would be worth piecing it together again my opinion because I don't want to see you make the mistake I did and spent twice the money cuz I knew the sound could be better. Good luck brother. Btw I like my shit supper loud so if that's not you the htib maybe for you. Again preference. Oh and the last 2 pics are of the htib it's hard to see but they're on the speaker stands and you can see the difference. Sorry just noticed they were on there.

I s cond the other posters' recommendation of Primus speakers. However, for the smaller rooms would recommend bookshelf speakers such as the P163. Four of those and the PC251 would set you back a bit less than $450.

A BIC F12 is an excellent home theater sub for the price.

I personally prefer Denon over Onkyo for various reasons, but all modern receivers will sound the same except for differences their room correction software.

Buy a basic receiver and spend the money on the sub and the speakers, because that is what you will hear.

The Primus and BIC system I listed above with a basic receiver will go for comfortably less than $1000.

If you think you might get a bigger room someday tha upgrade the entertainment the PC351.

With the PC351, you would be at just about $1000.

I literally bought this setup yesterday. I havnt hooked it up yet though. My only question is since I am hooking everything up to the receiver including the 4k bluray player, will the picture still be the same since I will be going from hdmi to receiver out to tv instead of bluray player direct to tv? Just want to make sure picture quality is the same and i bought a high end hdmi cable. Got Em!!

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll definitley look into those Inifinity speakers. I'm gonna go with bookshelf speakers because of how they'll be placed and the room isn't huge. I am willing to buy them here and there, especially since the room isn't ready. Plus the site you gave out up is out of stock of those bookshelf speakers at the moment. I may go ahead and pick up the center and sub though.

As long as you use it as through, the picture will be unaltered.

I was looking into those P163s you suggested, but it seems they're sold out everywhere. Do you have any other suggestions or a place that still sells them?

While you don't need towers in your space, these are less than buying bookshelf and stands.

I found out that I can get Crutchfield gift cards with my Discover Card rewards. I'm able to get up to $500 right now. Any suggestions for some Polks? Those gift cards could help a lot with my speakers.

I began with an HITB Onkyo before I got my current setup (Pioneer), I think they're good and solid.

The HITB speakers/sub will do the job but as you upgrade piece by piece you'll notice an improvement in quality/sound.

Good luck and cheers! Welcome to the Home Theater World, you're about to be blown away!! Especially with movies!!

Does anyone know if the speakers/sub in the Onkyo HT-S7805 setup are wireless?
Also if someone owns it, or have tried it - can you recommend it? Or give suggestions to something similar?
