What we're trying to do is pinpoint any abnormal behavior. If your devices behave the same (but differently) when you plug them into different inputs, we can assume that it's the cable-box causes the differences not the TV. |

Okay Chip:
Just tried switching the cable box's output to 720p -- indeed, the TV DID read the incoming resolution as "720/60p." So it IS recognizing correct resolution... ![]() |

Also Chip:
Do you have any idea why Samsung would offer OFF, LOW or AUTO noise reduction settings under Digital Clean View? Why is there no HIGH option? I wouldn't use it -- I always set my noise reduction on LOW (for film watching) or MEDIUM (for cable transmission watching) -- but I was curious as to why there is no HIGH option on the NU8000... |

There is no "High" for any input; but it would make sense that High would be omitted if you're saying it was originally for analog signals because the new NU's don't accept any analog video connections... Are you saying HIGH noise reduction was designed for analog signals, or noise reduction in GENERAL? Also -- what did you make of my findings that the TV DID indicate the change in resolution from the cable box? |

Just got home and went straight to my TV to check it out.
I do get that splash screen you are talking about when no components are on. As chip75 stated, you are likely not getting that splash screen on that specific input because there is a continuous signal being sent to your television by your cable box. As a side note, thanks to this thread, I also dug around the internet to find out how to show the incoming video signal. On my television, it's completely stupid. There is no way to display that information without using my Harmony remote. I have to push the button to select the HDMI Input 1 button on my harmony and the information will pop up on my television. Pure stupidity on Samsung's part. |

Thanks so much, Twinkie, for doing some research on your own TV! Much appreciated!

Can you take a picture of what it looks like so I can see if it's what I'm getting too? I can't find a damn picture of this via Google Images... This is the first time you're noticing this on your Samsung? Quote:

The screen I see is definitely the same one you are getting. Although, due to our TV's being different models, they are slightly different but convey the same message.
My screen shows an icon of an HDMI cable and says something like "check connection". My screen is white with blue and pink radiating from the center of the screen. I doubt a reboot signal will do anything for your cable box. Just unplug the power cord from the cable box and see if the sympton persists. Maybe also unplug the HDMI cable from the cable box, too. Simple. |

You mean unplug the cable box and see if the TV indicates the resolution still? |

It was designed for analogue and digital signals, but as there is no noise with digital signals, it's either on or off, it affects more analogue signals than digital. I'd imagine with digital signals you're basically degrading the image, so High maybe just too aggressive.

my thinking was that perhaps because it may have been designed for digital, a setting like "high" wouldn't be necessary.. ![]() |
