Question

I bought a 42" 720p Plasma Vizio about a year ago and have never adjusted the display settings. I'm still rocking the factory settings! I guess I'm afraid to mess with the settings, but I feel like I could be getting a better picture. Does anyone have a specific setting list I could use or any tips on how to get the best possible picture from my Plasma?

I actually just bought a Vizio VP422 42" plasma myself. Here are the settings I use. I came up with these using a THX optomizer, the THX blue filter glasses, and CNET's review calibration.

I personally felt that the CNET calibration looked very washed out and didn't like it too much. They did however have color temp settings that I tried and wow, those made a huge and very good difference.

Heres What I Use on my Vizio 42'' Plasma (VP422). It has 720p native resolution and will accept a 1080p input. I am running a ps3 (fat) into it via a monoprice HDMI cable.

Picture Mode - Standard

Brightness 46
Contrast 54
Color 37
Tint 0
Sharpness 4

Color Temp: Custom
Red 155
Green 128
Blue 105

Advanced Video:
DNR Off
Black LVL Ext. Off
White Peak Limiter Off
CTI Off
Flesh Tone Off
Adaptive Luma Off

EDIT: If my settings do not work well for you then you could try the CNET labs settings. They are as follows:

Picture Mode - Custom

Brightness 52
Contrast 6
Color 37
Tint 0
Sharpness 4

Color Temp: Custom
Red 155
Green 128
Blue 105

Advanced Video:
DNR Off
Black LVL Ext. Off
White Peak Limiter On
CTI Off
Flesh Tone Off
Adaptive Luma Off

Hope this helps and good luck.

Why do you guys not turn your color up? I have mine at 100 and everything looks so much nicer.. when it's at 50 it looks extremely dull.

I have an XVT 42" 1080p and I use the same settings as PEEKABOO2K except all colors at 128, and Luma at Strong.
