What make was the 2nd bulb?... A lot of people make the mistake by replacing the OEM bulb (which is a Philips) with a cheap Osram or other brand...

Well, it started with just one about a week ago, but I know have 3 white dots on my Samsung DLP and I expect more. My tv is just beyond the 4 yr. extended warranty I bought initially, but I called Samsung and they're going to replace it for free as long as its the DMD chip that's gone bad. I can't imagine it not being having read about this being a pretty typical problem for Samsung DLPs on another forum.
Good thing Samsung has agreed to fix this for me, otherwise I'd be furious and unlikely to buy from them again.

The main issues is that the TV wont display images from DirecTv. I get either a "not supported mode" or a "weak or no signal" message with a black screen and the little green box witht he message in it. I can hear the audio.

I am thinking the tv is having a hard time processing 1080p? Cause if I go to a non-HD channel, like 232, it comes up right away. But most other channels I have to trick it into coming on by switiching between video modes on the Onkyo repeatedly. Once it works though, its good until I shut it off, then have to start the whole crappy process the next day.

Am I crazy? doesnt my tv and my receiver have the capability to handle that kinda image?

(on a side note i first became aware of the 1080p issue back when i tried to order a PPV movie and it wouldnt display a picture, only sound)

The same goes for the PS3, but now instead of seeing the same message as above and being able to trick it into coming on by switching the video modes, it stays gray. I can hear the audio.

I am wondering if I need a new receiver because it isnt able to switch video to the tv properly, or since its 6 yrs old doesnt handle 1080p(?)
I did do your suggestion several months ago and move around and test the HDMI cables. They seem fine

Default Samsung DLP help

I replaced the light bulb in my DLP before it gave up the ghost after 6 years. Went to Samsung plasma which is still going strong after 5 years. I will be selling it at the end of the year because we are moving. It will be replaced by a 60"-65" LED to hang on the wall.
