Default Would it be smart if I traded in me plasma for a DLP TV?

I've been thinking about this simply becauase I'd save like $400 or so versus my current set up. I'm not really sure of the DLP/Mitusbishi quality. Any tips? . Also considering just a regular projector.

The Panasonic GT24 series plasma. I'm also thinking about trading it in for either the ST30 or a DLP. I'd save more with the ladder.

Are you a pirate? Arrh, matey!
[Show spoiler] j/k!

I have always prefered plasmas, they have the best picture quality in my opinion.

I was just kidding, I hope you're not really mad!

From research I have done, I've heard that DLPs tend to break down quite frequently, maybe that's why they're more affordable.

(Me be please with your rebuttal, would you take a parlay instead?).

Ah, I see. Maybe I should stick with the ST30.....I just hope the ST30 is a step above the GT (2010) series.

Depends on your room. I have a dlp in my theater room but the room is pitch black. Alot depends how much light comes into your viewing area. I had the same tv upstairs previously and the image was dull unless it was dark. Dark movies during the day were hard to see it was always washed out by the light in the room. Like a movie thater with the lights on. But move that dlp into a darker area and youll love it. Also if people are viewing from far angles it will look dull to them. My situation is straight on viewing so no problem here. Bang for the buck you cant beat dlp but has to be the right room environment to take full advantage.

Also I have a 73" mitsubishi now and so far not a single issue with it. I had a
61" Samsung dlp before and this one has far superior color and depth. Way better detail on the blu's. Had it for a year now and no bulbs replaced and not even a minor glitch. So Id say quality is very good. Previous post mentioned he heard dlp's were unreliable but so far Ive owned 2 and never a repair on either. Only replaced it to go from the 61 samsung to the 73 mitsubishi. I did replace the bulb on the sammy and it ran me $165.00 I'd say Mitsubishi good bet!

Exactly, my DLP which I probably have less then 1000 hours of use on it (just watch movies and tv series on blu ray) has died on me 3 years since I purchased it. The mirrors started getting stuck, one by one into a pixelated mess of black dots.

To me thats a dud product. That's like have a car you drive one the weekends, having a trasmission/engine failure at 10000km, even though you mantained it well and is now out of warranty.

I dont blame my DLP make (Samsung). I blame shoddy Texas Instruments who made the faulty chip.

Otherwise I loved the tv. I going with a plasma afterwards by the way.

...lol, I just realized I replied to an ancient thread.

There is an easy solution for you. Find out if the manufacturer will do it free of charge. Otherwise, you can do it for less than $200 and your TV will be as good as new. Check the following thread that I created.

I'm not up to date on TVs at the moment as mine is nearing 5 years old, but I would suggest looking into LED DLPs, as I said mine is almost 5 years old and the picture is just like it was when purchased. There are no bulbs to change, the life expectancy of the LEDs is 60,000 to 80,000 hours or longer. Again this is just my opinion and I have nothing to compare it to, the tv is on every day and is usually on pretty much 24 hrs at a time Friday to Sundays...

Love my 67in Sammy Led DLP. I still have the Sammy 5085 DLP going strong downstairs. Thinking if/ when the 67 goes out I'm sticking with DLP prolly just go projector, unless they make the LED DLP again.
