Default Gray area on Mitsubishi 65"

Hi,

I purchased my Mitsubishi DLP TV in 2007 and never had a problem with it until this year. I had seen black and white dots on the left side of the screen and they were increasing every week. I also saw a small (about 2 inches) gray pattern/smudge in the lower right part of the screen.

I knew the dots were because of my DLP chip so I replaced that and the dots are gone. However, the gray pattern/smudge has increased in size and is now near the middle of the screen. Normally it's not noticeable but you can clearly see it when there's a dark black background. When I turn the TV off it's not visible.

Has anyone come across this or know what it is? I have a feeling maybe I got fingerprints on something when I was replacing the DLP chip but I can't figure it out.

go here and you will have your answer. I had the same problem and just got it taken care of two weeks a go. I called Mitsubishi support three weeks ago and gave them a sob story about my 65" DLP only lasting for less than 4 years. I told them that my 7 year old JVC DLP, which works with an i-DLA chip, the same principal as the Mitsu with no color wheel, has worked flawlessly without even a flicker of a pixel.

They said the part would be replaced for free but the labor would be $200. My guess is they got smart about sending these chips out for free as I am sure that some were getting sold on eBay or wherever.

Mitsu said the part would be shipped directly to a service center and they would contact me in a couple of weeks for install. About 2 hours later I get a call from a serviceman asking if I would be available the next afternoon for installation.

I am sure that the service center is getting some, but not all of the $200 for a 20 minute repair and Mitsubishi is breaking even on the repairs to keep customers happy. They were all too happy to offer the part for free with the $200 install.

$200 for a 65" TV is far better than buying a new one at $1500 and if it lasts another 4 years, I am way ahead. I just replaced the first bulb about 6 months ago for $125.

Call Mitsu Consumer Relations at 800-332-2119 to get the problem fixed very inexpensively.

Was there supposed to be a link there? What you're describing sounds like the DLP Chip but I replaced that and the black and white dots went away but what I'm experiencing now is kind of a gray smudge area on the screen.

there was the customer service number there to call mitt. did you replace the chip your self? or did you have service center do it? and how long ago did you have this done? if you had a service center do it I would call them and see if the work they did is still under warranty. i hope this helps. good luck have a nice day.
