That facebook thing is absolutely disgustingly disturbing. When I was going through everything I felt like I was the only one... but I see tons of people had the same stuff happen. Like people from customer service saying "there is no one higher up than me" so you can't get anywhere. Them saying things like "we'll give you a deal, pay us $3000 for a TV that's 5 inches smaller." I'll be sure to stay away from Sony from now on and spread the word as well.

I loved the sxrd sets the 60s were beautiful. The screens had a film look to them.

I just read some disturbing news (from another forum) about this SXRD OB problems and how Sony want to deal with this.

I copied this from another forum.
Quote:
• The A3000 models are second-generation SXRDs in the same family as the XBR2, A2000, and A2020 models.
• The proposed class action settlement will extend Sony's warranty by ONE SINGLE MONTH (from 6/30/2011 to 7/31/2011) for optical block replacement for the A3000s.
• If Sony chooses not to replace your optical block under the extended warranty period, they will offer you a $200 (50"), $250 (55"), or $300 (60") cash settlement, which is based on the original retail prices (and that is why they are offering more to XBR1 and XBR2 owners).
Here is the web site about the Sony lawsuits.
http://sites.google.com/site/sonylcd...ction-lawsuits

I am furious that Sony is doing this. I paid alot for this tv and it should last a long time. Sony knew from day one that there will be optical block issues and they sold it to the consumers as a defective product. I want my full money back Sony so I can go out and buy another brand name tv.
Never again will I purchase another Sony tv.

I have a KDS-50A2000 and have had issues starting 2 days ago where it will have the lamp go out and the power light blink, but not the lamp light. I've contacted Sony and they've had me do power resets which temporarily fix the issue. Is this related to the Optical Block or something different?

Default Kds-60a3000

This will be my second optical block
The 1st was replaced under my Circuit City warranty Because back then Sony had nor extended the warranty would not do anything for me even though it was only 3 weeks past the original warranty SOL they said.
The one that circuit city replaced was a refurbished and that one is beginning to show signs of green just like that last one. It is not jump out obvious problem but I can see in the skin tones in certian lighting situarions a green shadow around the beard and under the chin.

Sony's repair people came out with the second one and said it is not the optical block (but he could he could see the green too) he said that if it were the optical block that it would effect the entire picture not just sections.
he did a factory reset and left with out installing it.
After I sat down to watch I could still see the green and called them back.
It is doing exactly the same thing as before and only gets worse as time goes on.
And when the circuit city warranty people replaced the first one all that green shadowing went away.
So I am sure the optical block is beginning to fail and do not want to wait till it goes totally green to get it replaced
Since I have experienced this before I now know what to look for.
Last Sony product for me too and I mean any Sony product.

Autobot, sorry to hear you're going through all of that. Hearing all of this and seeing that Facebook page makes me sick to my stomach.

I have an SXRD KDS 50-A2000 rear projector at home, and so far it hasn't had any issues. While it has a great picture, everyday the thought crosses my mind that it will begin displaying optical block issues. I need to dig through my files to find the warranty info. I can't remember if I bought an extended service plan with it or not. It seems it would be a good idea to keep that information handy.

Good luck with your repair work. I hope you end up with a good resolution to the issue.

Can someone give me some kind of idea how old their Sony's are which are experiencing this problem? I have owned my KDS60A3000 since late 2007 and except for changing the lamp once, I haven't experienced any image problems! KNOCK ON WOOD!!

My SXRD is 3 years old this month - changed lamp once, no optical block problems. It's a 60A2020, btw.

My SXRD is a 60A2000 60inch, purchased Feb of 2007 and I have not had any optical block problems and here it is close to the extended warrenty date going out, I still have not changed the lamp yet, I try not to watch it too much. I hope nothing happens after the extended warrenty is done.

In the last 2 months i have had my OB replaced twice and this recent one is defective as well but not nearly as bad as the others. Still, im going to get it replaced because it will only get worse in the future, and if the next replacement isnt better best buy is offering me $1800 for my 55a2000. Even though i paid $2115 for it, im not complaining cuz i used the tv for 3yrs and that is much better than what sony will do.

I made a post about this in the "i have a defective sony group" a week ago and sarah keppler from sony friended me and is attempting to work with me. Since im going with a pn58c8000 or tcp54vt25 as a replacwment, i demanded an equivelent tv from sony for a similar price difference. That model would be a 55" 3d 800 or 900 series for $1100. I knew it was a long shot and she wouldnt budge on that. She told me that she would look in her inventory and call me back today with what she can do as a replacement. I will most likely decline the offer since i want a 3D plasma anyway. Ill post what she offers me once i find out.

Bought mine Feb 2008.
No bulb replacement yet.
Still waiting for the authorized Sony technician to call for the appointment.
If they say the same thing and refuse replace it again I will just call the Circuity City Warranty and tell them the last one they replaced is going out.
Hopefully I can hold on to the TV till 2012 that's when the Circuit city warranty goes away.
Or I may just bite the bullet and get a LaserVue.
Too bad S.E.D. TV never came to be.

i have a 70 inch sxrd and my optical block was starting to go bad, called sony to tell them what was going own,a week later the repairman came and replaced the optical block. i couldnt believe how good the picture looked afterwards. its like having a brand new t.v. it seems like the picture is better than when i first purchased the t.v. when my wife noticed the difference it had to look real good, made me realize why i brought this thing in the first place. i just pray that it will stay this way

Ok, the model i was offered free of charge was a kdl-55ex501 refurbished with a 6 month warranty. If things do not go as planned with my best buy replacement, like if my final ob replacement actually works properly, i may take her up on that offer just so i do not have a bulb to replace anymore and im assuming the 501 should have a better PQ anyway vs the sxrd. Sucks it is a refurb but if time comes, ill check on the difference for a new one which looks to be $350 from an above post.

How long ago did they replace the block? I have read that many people have had the OB replaced, only to have the replacement deteriorate soon afterwards.

I got my SXRD 50-A2000 in December, 2006. I haven't had to change a light bulb yet or had any optical block issues either. It's in the game room, and didn't really have much usage for quite a while. Now that the game room is finished, it is being used quite a bit more.

I really need to find my documentation, so I can find out if I bought an extended warranty or not.

Default replaced

They came back and actually installed it this time.
The repair guy said he would not guarantee it would fix the green shadows and blobs I was seeing because he did not think the optical block was going bad.
I watched as he installed and after watching the last repair guy install the last (refurbished O.B.) I was certain this was his first time to install one.
After the install guess what??? green blob gone picture looks like new again.
So yeah the Sony tech's are probably supposed to discourage you from getting the replacement unless it is at total failure.

I bought my 50A2000 in September of 2006 and an extended warranty from Mack. I've had the optical block replaced twice and not too long ago started seeing some more green tint.

I contacted Sarah Kepler on Facebook and was offered a refurbished KDL-52Z5100 as a replacement, which I accepted. The 52Z5100 will be delivered in the next week to ten days.
