Speaking of lamps, if you have purchased them within a year they will give you a credit for the cost of the bulb if you still have proof of purchase.

I too have an SXRD and have had it for years. got it when my model first came out so i think i've had it for at least 6 years. it still works, still is the best looking tv i've had in my home. i too have a BB extended warranty and have had nothing but positive things to say about BB as a result of it.

to date, they have replaced 2 OB's, 1 lamp under the warranty. they offered an extended warranty to me 2 years ago and i bought it. i purchased a lamp online to have as an emergency spare. i used it about 3 months ago and purchased another for the same reason. they still owe me a lamp under the renewed warranty which is up in november of this year. i'll call them in november to order the lamp and will simply take possession of it.

if they offer me another warranty extension, i'll renew it. unlike some, i've had nothing but positive experiences with BB/GS in the entire 6 years i've owned the set. anyone on the phone and the tech who serviced the set have been incredibly nice and very professional. they made my SXRD and me very happy.

[Show spoiler]if they don't offer another extended warranty then, i'll start saving for a new sony at that time. i will opt out of the replacement deal as i would then want to get a modern current model with 3D and everything. something with a current, new warranty and yes, i'll get another extended warranty. thanks for the info on dealing with sony for those who have one of the sxrd sets and want to get the best deal they can for replacement. i'm sure folks are greatfull about you putting that info up.

i'll keep this one for as many lamp changes it will take until something fails on it and it. whatever you decide or end up with i wish you the best of luck.

keep us posted.
My issues with best buy was mainly due to being passed to a third party company that was worthless. I asked if there was anyone else I could deal with (like GS) and they said they didn't do tv repairs themselves in my area and outsourced it to the third party I was passed to. I had also requested that the replacement bulb be mailed to me and told this is no longer allowed since people kept claiming they didn't get them to have multiples sent to them. What is kinda funny is that the third party company went out of business while I was waiting for them to come for the service call, so BB finally just mailed me a replacement bulb.

They offered me to extend my warranty but due to fund issues and the service problems I had just getting a replacement bulb, I passed on it. Of course, I regretted that decision when my tv did fail less than 3 months later.

Wonder if my XBR1 is finally going? Recently watching a B&W Blu-ray I thought I saw a tinge go green in the picture but it was tiny so I thought maybe it's the transfer. No, no! Was watching Schindler's List this week and noticed it a bit more and finally yesterday turned it back on to watch the ending and the whole scene looked a pale green. Color broadcasts look pretty good but they still look a little off and seem to improve the longer the set is on. Any thoughts? I've been carrying extended warranties on this since I bought it in '06 and had the light engine replaced in early '07. It's been great since that time but this seems like a bad omen.

Sears doesn't think so. I finally called and the tech came by on Monday. Right away he said it was the OB. He called to see if they still have any; of course not, so now the bad part-they pull mine, send it away and fix it (rebuild?) and then send it back and re-install. All to the tune of about 2 and a half weeks worth of the set being out of service. I guess that's within the wording of the service contract but what a hassle.

mine is still going good and going on 8yrs old later this year if it should last that long. i did have 2 OB's changed but it's been good thus far. i have 2 lamps as spares and i do hope that the set last through at least one change of the two lamps. i've gotten a lot out of it and it's been one of the best looking tv's i've ever seen.

i know nothing last forever so like i said, if i can get one more lamp life cycle out of it, i'll be overjoyed.

glad to know others still have and are loyal to their SXRD set's.

To be honest, I was already eyeing replacement sets. I figured that parts wouldn't be available and, to a point, I was right. I hadn't figured on my OB being the part. I thought they would send out a OB, if available, or issue the requisition for a replacement set. I worked for Sears and saw plenty of PA replacement forms show up with the-"parts not available" notation. Losing the only HD set in the house for close to three weeks sucks.

Yep my KDS60A2000 is still alive and kicking too and outside of plasma I really haven't seen many to want to change. Obviously about the same age. 1 OB replacement but still on the original bulb and it's been used heavily, I have to go in and check the hrs on it, I mean almost 8 years is a hell of a long time for 1 bulb. Guess I got the really good one of the batch hehe

If you already have, or can still get your hands on one, a Sony replacement bulb treasure it because the generic ones that are available now are inferior. Sears sent me one as a over-the-phone solution when I first reported my problem but I knew that wasn't the solution and the tech confirmed it just by looking at the picture. He said might as well replace it when the new OB comes back and pulled out the old bulb. According to him the one in the set was just about to go anyway. That bulb is probably no more than two years old and was the first generic bulb I've had experience with.

You know what, you're right. I haven't checked in a while so even if they were easily available last year these things do get obsolete fast. Great idea as honestly if the OB doesn't go, and it's been a few years, so it seems fine, I am waiting for an official next format (not this half backed UHD) and possibly OLED, figured this one lasted long enough to go high end again. And for HT, LCoS is still far superior to led, the few really good sets notwithstanding.

My of is going out for the second time. Really pissed off about it because Sony isn't going to replace it anymore. I paid almost 5k for a piece of s____. When I get my new house I'm going projecter. I hate to admit it but I think I want the new Sony vpl 55, lol. The first sentence I meant to say optical block.

No good news for me. OB hasn't come back from being rebuilt and the scheduled service call for tomorrow is on hold till that happens. So, it will be at least 3 weeks and counting till I get it back in service.

I have no idea. Fortunately it's covered under a PA that I've kept renewing since I got the set. I see there's a guy on EBay who rebuilds them using your old OB for $250 but, unless you know what you're doing, it's a pretty involved job just getting it out of the set. Watching the service tech do it I kept thinking "it's like a jigsaw puzzle in there."
