Well, I don't blame you...unfortunately, some of us have to "make do" with viewing cinema on a TV screen...

The animated features your kids watch would definitely benefit, though, from the added pop modes like Standard and Vivid provide...

Well, my brothers, I am retiring my 50" SXRD. I picked up a new Vizio M-series on Saturday and it will become the primary set. Don't feel too sad, however. The inlaws will be taking the SXRD and will run it until it dies.

It has been about a year since I last posted in this thread. Still have the 70 inch SXRD.... still on the first bulb...(tv came with two bulbs, still have the second one)... and still love the TV. I have no plans to ever replace it until it dies. Then... I don't know... will just have to see what may be available at that time. Seven years now with this Sony.. and not one problem.

I still have my KDS-60A2020 which can be seen in my HT gallery.

I bought 2 replacement lamps but haven't had to use 1 yet.

This set is amazing. I got it & returned it after 2 weeks looking for something better. After 4 other Brand/models later, I ended up right where I started.

i'm like you, still using the original bulb. no issues. my 60'xbr2 is hanging in there can you believe the price of things now? you can get a deal on a 60' for around $1500

I'm still using my Sony KDS60A2020 after 6 years and 2 lamps. My bulb blew up on my Sony TV about 2 weeks ago, I purchased another one. Having already replaced my bulb before (I watch a lot of TV) I was familiar with the process.

I removed the old one and put the new one in. I turned on my TV and performed the lamp reset. I'd say about 4 minutes later my bulb blew up again!!!!

When I mean blew up I mean literally blew up, I took it out and the front window was cracked and there was a hundred little pieces of glass inside the bulb.

I ordered through Amazon and managed to get another one for free but i'm hesitating in trying it again. Maybe there is another issue?

Has anyone else had this problem?

Anyway I may end up having to buy a new TV, *sigh* I really loved this TV!

OEM bulb or cheaper replacements? If not OEM, stuff like this happens often, there's a reason they are much cheaper.

If OEM, you didn't touch the glass of the lamp with your fingers? Buying with the casing is better as it avoids that.

How did the last original bulb die, the same?

I bought my KDS-50 A2000 in November, 2006. The thing ran flawlessly, and I thought I was one of the lucky ones. I replaced my original bulb in early 2014.

In the second half of 2014, I started getting the greenish blob, so sadly my optical block started going out. After a couple of months, it was completely out, and everything looked green. It felt like I was watching The Matrix all the time.

Being well outside my warranty and ES contract, I decided to try repairing it myself. I bought an SXRD color chip off Ebay for $85 just before Christmas, and I watched the norcal repair video you YouTube repeatedly. I started tearing down the TV on Friday night, and I had it all back together and installed on Saturday night.

Thankfully, I did everything okay, and the picture now looks brand new. I finished just in time to watch the conference championship games on Sunday, and I am now looking forward to the Super Bowl.

I have to admit this repair was a bit stressful. The optical block is the very last thing you pull out of the TV during the process. Once you replace the color chip, you need to reconnect everything outside of the TV in order to align the blue chip with the others on the ceiling. It's not impossible, but it is not easy at all. A lot of patience is needed, because it is all trial and error. But it is doable.

I had to look at your gallery to see if you really still have a SXRD.

so, i have two brand new, replacement lamps for my SXRD sitting in my closet looking at me everytime i open up the closet! i've had my current lamp in since at least 2010.

the lamp was still working, but, i kept thinking about changing it out for the hell of it. well, yesterday, i did change it out. here is a shot of the two lamps.

the lamp on the left is the old lamp that was taken out, the new lamp is on the right. you can see how much more clear the lamp on the right it. the older one is getting cloudy almost frosty.

so, i did the change out, went turned it on went into the menu and told it i changed the lamp. while i had already begun to notice the better picture, it really kicked in inside of 5 minutes.

WOW! it was like brand new, like a new/different tv. i haven't see that screen look that good since, well, since the previous lamp was changed out in 2010!

i just couldn't get over how good it looks. even the menu's on the cable guide, the info information that pops up on screen, everything looked incredible. the menu on blu-ray movies were super new looking!

i'm hoping that the tv holds out another couple of years. truth is, i'll probably keep it until it dies. as we all know, this was one of the best LCD tv's that sony put out on the market, of it's kind.

i know this is an old thread, but, i just had to let my fellow SXRD users know about it. i still have one more new lamp, so, as long as everything else in the tv holds up, who know's how long i will have it?!?

I am still on my original bulb for my 70" XBR...... after reading the above post, perhaps I should replace it. (I have one). Although the picture still looks pretty damn good to me. Still VERY happy with my SXRD and have no plans to replace it until it dies.
