Howdy, love my sony! About 3 months ago I started having problems with the dreaded "optical block" that this line is prone to. Best Buy Geek Squad replaced the picture engine with a new, upgraded version and let me tell you, the picture looks better than when the set was brand new. Very happy with the upgrade and love my Sony RPTV! Only one small setback, too bad it doesn't support 1080p/24, it does do 1080p/60 other than that I wouldn't trade it for the world!

65" Hitachi SWX crt rptv....Pros = (1) deep, inky blacks! (it took plasma & notably lcd a number of years to replicate the black levels found on crt's); (2) large cabinet allowed for larger integrated speakers (better sound) than found in flatscreens or dlp/lcd/lcos rptv's; (3) back in 02', crt was the best bang for the buck: for the same price, my other option was a 42" lcd rptv. Cons = (1) limited viewing angles; (2) only 1080i via DVI; (3) bulky, 2 piece cabinet = 319 lbs!; (4) periodic need to realign guns. Overall, still a great picture....back in 02', the highly respected Hitachi TWX or SWX line of rptv's represented the zenith in crt pj technology before the format's rapid demise.

I have a Hitachi 51in love the picture but I have one problem. A while back it started to turn itself off and on then it would lose the picture and the screen would fill up with thousands of little squares. Had a service man come out but he found nothing wrong. I have AT&T Uverse had their Tech come out to look at it as soon as he opened the cabinet he said the problem was the dvr box he said it was not compatible with an HDMI cable. He said they have been trying for over a year to get them to work together. He put on some HD component cables and the tv is working fine no problems at all picture is just as good as if the HDMI was hooked up. Has anyone else had a problem like this one?

Samsung HL-T5076S
Bought it from Amazon last year and had it replaced by Samsung because the screen couldn't be adjusted within spec. I actually had more issues with the local tv repair shop than Samsung. The Pictures looks great especially paired with my my BD player or Xbox 360. |

I have an original SXRD; Sony 60" SXRD XBR1. Bought it from one of the big box stores in Feb 06 I believe. I love it, and it is still going strong. Mine says 1080p, but it doesn't actually accept a 1080p signal.. it upconverts the 1080i signal (or de-interlaces it I think). I think the picture is still awesome
I would go with an LCD and 24hz, but I cannot find many 60" LCDs that won't break the bank. ... plus, "if it aint broke, don't fix it". I cannot justify going from 60" down to 52" right now either. I did have the light engine replaced under warranty, and has been going strong ever since. |

KDS-60A3000
If you have this (or the 50 or 55), make sure your firmware ends in "T." If not, you can order the firmware (for free) from Sony's web site. If you happen to call them, mention "Cnet 1080i," and they will find it easily. |

How can you tell the firmware version on a KDS-60A3000? Also, is this related to the "pinkish picture"? thanks.

You can find the firmware at AVS Forum if you search through the KDS-60A3000 thread. Last edited by Yog-Sothoth; 01-07-2009 at 03:39 AM. |
