2 hours?! My word.

I thought it would be like 70 minutes. Iíll pass on it.

I went by most of the stores in town that I didn't get to on Friday. Only found a few, as it was mainly DVDs, and repeats from the last wave. I ended up grabbing the following.

Furie was definitely from an older wave as the UPC wasn't the same. I also picked up a few DVDs.

Default 7/16-7/17 Pickups

Took another trip to all 5 local stores to see if they'd stocked (or re-stocked) for the sale. We're now up to two stores stocking the Item of the Week display, and 3 having nothing out yet.

Blu-Ray
  • The Humanity Bureau
  • I Melt With You
  • In Dubious Battle (Slip)
  • Little Miss Doolittle
  • Righteous Villains

DVD
  • Sam Elliot: I Will Fight No More Forever + 10 Bonus Movies
  • Vanishing on 7th Street (Slip) (DC - SD? via iTunes)

I assume the digital copy of Vanishing on 7th Street is SD. If anyone has a foolproof way of checking iTunes for SD/HD/UHD status, let me know. (I have iPhone/iPad, but no Mac.)

For what it's worth, if you like the classic City of God, I would recommend the Elite Squad movies. I think only the second one has shown up at DT, and it's been a long time since I seen them (I think part 1 is better?), but they're sort of like City of God only through the perspective of the police. I have both on DVD (that I didn't buy at DT), so I'd love to upgrade for a buck.

Both Elite Squad films are very dope, especially the second one.

Giving these Echo Bridge blus a try:

Deadheading - skip it. Became background noise after 20 minutes. Turned it off at 45.

Voodoo Apocalypse - I stopped after 25-30 minutes. It's not bad enough that I'll donate it. Keeping it in a sleeve for maybe a future attempt to watch.

Trick or Treat - Currently watching; closing in on half an hour. I still have interest in it.

Judging by the reviews I read, it's not for everyone. But if you like a character-driven, clever, unique, confined-space horror/comedy, you might enjoy it.

At least 85-90% of what I watch is low budget. I find a lot of the most interesting and creative (in every respect, especially how they maximize their money) movies are low budget/indie. They also generally don't suffer from "too many cooks in the kitchen," test group compromises, excessive CGI, etc. Not to say there's no such thing as a good movie with a budget, I just tend to gravitate toward these.

If you haven't found one already, I saw several copies at Dollar General for $2.95 (new).

We finally got some Hero of Color City blu-rays here in central Illinois, but the same person bought them all for her "brother and nephew". Also bought every single blu-ray they had in stock. Then proceeded to do the same at all the area Goodwill's and Dollar Tree's.

I get it, just don't pretend like you have no clue what you're doing.

I walked into a store yesterday with a couple filling a shopping cart. They had most of the BDs and a lot of DVDs; so much so that they used two of the shipper boxes to organize their selections in the cart. Oh well, you snooze you lose, and at least they left the display nice and orderly.

I ended up with these:

DVD not in database: The Shvitz

I had a copy of that "Master of the Rings" set already, but mine had a couple majorly-dinged corners, so I was happy to find a nicer copy.

It's probably better to sell them at discounted prices rather than dumping them ET Atari style

Did a quick stop to DT (had food in the car). Didn't see much but found this. I'm a sucker for cheap horror flicks.

Also did a case swap. Think it came out ok.

For the Tolkien set, I didn't really care about the doc, I was more interested in the CD and booklet. Are there many illustrations in the booklet?

Every page but one has illustrations, and that one page still has screenshots of the DVD menus. Pics forthcoming...

I checked another store today. When I walked in, the front table was empty but they had full end cap of movies . There were 24 or so boxes of mostly older stuff (almost all of which were full), but only one box from the July wave. This store seems to never be able to sell their movies. After checking through those I walked back up front and apparently one of the staff had filled up the bin with the rest of the July wave stock. They had 6-7 boxes (it seems this store consistently gets lots of stuff despite not selling very many).

I grabbed one bluray:

Killer Tatooist

And a few DVDs:
  • Death Kiss
  • Laugh Out Loud Triple Feature (Let Go, Everyday Black Man, Cheaper to Keep Her)
  • 4 Film Collection: Family (mostly grabbed for Return to Nim's Island)
  • Movie Binge: 8 Film Collection

The 8 movie collection is from eOne and is very odd. I mostly grabbed it for American Breakdown which stars Paul Walker, James Gandolfini and Steve Carrell and Guilty Hearts with Gerard Butler, Anna Farris, and Kathy Bates. Most of the other movies seem to be religious-themed and at least three star Robin Givens.

The Laugh Out Loud triple feature is also odd because it seems that Everyday Black Man is not a comedy at all. It's also from eOne.

The Congress started out well and had an interesting concept but as soon as the animation set in its a slog to get through it. Felt never ending and just depressing.

I've heard similar, but haven't seen it for myself. Would've liked to have found the BD, but this'll be fine.

FWIW: It did come with a digital copy, but one you can only download from: DRAFTHOUSEFILMS.COM/REDEEM/CONGRESS

I offer it freely to first come: 5b77f4-589df9
