All we have to do is continue buying as we have. They have one title and if we were to buy a couple of BDs that week it should help our cause greatly.

I must say that the BDA has been really smart by responding to the Transformers release by doing all of these Blu-ray movie sales that are starting to pop up this and next week at BestBuy, Circuit city, FYE, and now Fry's / Outpost with Blu-ray's for just $10/each, that's a great way to raise the Blu-ray numbers for that week, so I think there's still hope to keep the undefeated Nielsen streak going

I am still confident that blu-ray will still dominate even with the transformers release.

Either way, I think that one week really isn't what we should be focusing on...

I think like someone else mentioned, we need to focus on the bigger picture, and that is the fourth quater...

I do believe that companies are going to be watching the fourth quater, as well as the holidays and making some serious decisions for their 2008 release plans...

Warner Bros has already eluded to this statement, and I am sure that other companies are doing the same...

Personally, I do not think Bluray is going to see a victory next week. I would love to be absolutely wrong on this one, but if Transformers has a release week like 300 did on HD-DVD, I do not see anything in next weeks lineup that could possibly counter-act it.

No Bluray movie, with the exception of 300, has done 100,000 on its first week, let alone as a title that has been out for sometime. I expect people to still purchase 300 on BD this week, as well as some people perhaps picking up copies of Fantastic Four ROFSS that they neglected to pick up, but overall I think HD-DVD might squeak out their first week win in a very long time...

I think the Fourth Quarter is going to be interesting considering all of the WB releases, the Fox releases, the Disney releases, etc, etc.

I think Bluray will fair well this holiday season, I just hope its enough to get WB off of the fence and start backing the superior format.

Warner Brothers pretty much holds the future of this format war in its hands. Going BD or HD-DVD exclusive would be a nail in the coffin for either side.

Even is Transformers pulls HD-DVD to a winning sales week, I take much satisfaction in that the little victory for HD-DVD will be very short lived.

Most of the HD-DVD's for Transformers will be purchased the week of release. Following that comes Spiderman, POTC3, Pixar's releases, Simpsons, Superbad, Die Hard, CEOTHK, Harry Potter, etc... Lots of day and date titles that are just as if not more popular. One week may allow them to brag but its not going to win the war.

Oh, and let's not forget about Shrek. I know of a little French mouse that can more than take on that orgre!

The week of Oct. 30 will be big for BD though. Spiderman trilogy is coming out. I see great numbers right there for Blu-ray.

Me either, I wonder if it is really going to be that hot. There were a lot of people who went back to see the film again and again in the theatres. If they own a HD-DVD player they will only need one copy.

I think it wll be close, but HD-DVD may take that week. I just hope it doesn't open the door for the trolls to come in and try to stick it in our faces.

It may not have been a good story movie, but I would have bought it if it were on Blu. Now it will just be a SD netflix rent.

Since HD-DVD is dead in Japan already, I'd almost expect Transformers to be released on blu-ray there. We will have to wait longer I'm sure, however they will probably get it before the Paramount/Dreamworks 18 month thing expires.

does any retail store permit you to return new unopened movies? if so, we could all buy 100 BD's on the transformer release date, and return 99 the day after...ok I'm KIDDING but a fun thought

the US HDDVD release of transformers will be out a long time before the UK release, but being region free will mean a lot of people here will import it, so false figures for the US release will also include a lot of uk buyers, so dont be so confident that BD will win.

Even if we dominated in software sales over the holiday, do you really think HD-DVD would give up that easily? Won't it take a long time for HD-DVD to phase out? If they do have reasonably priced players and a decent library, do you think the average consumer will see this as an opportunity to jump on the bandwagon? I have confidence in Blu-rays ability to remain in the lead the week of transformers. I just don't think there are enough average consumers adopting HDM. I will probably be wrong but oh well. I guess I just don't understand the hype with Transformers. I still haven't seen it and I could care less. I guess if I did see it it would be a different story.

Will be getting Hollowman for sure and a couple catalog titles this week to offset Transformers. Too bad we can't get a HD DVD to transform into a garbage can where it belongs.

Yes. Anything purchased and delivered (i.e. not pre-orders) between
Monday 10/15 and Sunday 10/21 counts during this particular Nielsen week.
