You do realize that's an indie game right? Not a 1st party PlayStation studios game.

Wow, I saw it totally opposite from you. To me, Spider-Man 2 and FF 7 Rebirth alone completely blew away everything shown at Nintendo's Direct. Yes, we've seen them before, but come on. We learned a LOT more about both of those games at this SOP than we knew before and both games look to be straight bangers! And where I had no interest in Avatar before, now I'm kind of sold on it after seeing at Sony's SOP. It looks fantastic and got me excited for it. I'm also probably going to play the Ghostbusters VR game as well and I KNOW I'm going to play RE4 VR!

I'm sorry but IMO Nintendo's Direct was garbage and had nothing that compared! Absolutely nothing they showed interested me with the exception of the new Mario Kart 8 Deluxe expansion and maybe the Luigis Mansion 2 Dark Moon port.

Look, I get it. They're prepping for Switch 2. I greatly look forward to it and I'm sure the next wave of Nintendo bangers will be unveiled at that event. But come on! For the most part this direct was a waste of my time.

If you watch the SoP again but skip Baby Steps, the event is so much better. There is probably someone here excited for that game but it holds zero interest for me, and it kind of set my mood for the rest of the show.

$70 is the standard price for most modern AAA games now, just how it is.

I've decided to skip MK1 and instead play Tekken 8. It looks far more impressive IMO.

The Direct delivered exactly what it needed to. Some solid mid tier games for the next year to keep things chugging along until Switch 2 drops with one huge crowd pleaser in Thousand Year Door. I’m still not convinced Switch 2 is coming next holiday and am leaning towards Nintendo might try and squeak out one last holiday for Switch.

These aren't new announcements. Spider Man 2 and FF7 Rebirth were just bew trailers of games that have been known about for ages. I really didn't pick up on anything particularly new of interesting about either game. Rebirth has everything from the 2nd third of FF7, as expected. Not that I'm particularly interested on the FF7 remakes given the hack n slash game play style, but I get why many are.

This is interesting. Etsushi Iizuka in given special thanks in the credits for Baldur's Gate 3. He is a well known Nintendo employee and every game he's ever been given special thanks for has landed on a Nintendo console. His job is basically getting games ported to Nintendo consoles.

Obviously, that game cannot be ported to the Switch, but it seems a strong indicator that the game does end up on the next Nintendo console. That would be a HUGE 3rd party AAA get for Nintendo. Could also be an indicator that other big AAA games could be ported to their next console easier than expected.

Nintendo is putting out Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with all DLC content on the cartridge. Was REALLY hoping this would happen as it's nice to have the complete game in physical form. They also did this for Breath of the Wild awhile back. Wish there was a North American version, but it seems this is only getting a Japanese release. I'll definitely be picking this up.

So does that mean the 6th course pack will be released by October 6th so it can be included on the cart? It still has the December 31st placeholder date, but if the cart will be available in three weeks they better be ready to go if they are included.

It states that the additional content will not be on the cart, but will be a digital download. What would the benefit of this release be?

I misspoke. All content *except* for the 6th DLC will be on the cartridge. Stinks they couldn't wait a little longer for that final DLC wave, but nearly everything is on the cart.

Seeing this again made me wonder what’s going on with the Suikoden 1 and 2 remakes.

Oh yeah that's right, I completely forgot they were announced!

Hopefully they aren't in developmental limbo.

After reflecting on it for a few days now, I think you're right. This Direct was never going to be anything spectacular. It was all about providing more information on the Switch's winter/early 2024 lineup. And honestly, they did a good job of it. The final year or year and a half of the Switch's lifecycle as Nintendo's primary console as far as 1st party games goes definitely appears to be the best of any Nintendo home console to date. Thousand Year Door was huge news for me, even if it had been rumored for some time. Nintendo did what they needed to do to keep up consumer interest in the current Switch through one more holiday season.

However, unless Nintendo faces a problem such as an unforeseen chip shortage or are still struggling to figure out backwards compatibility with the Switch 2, I don't see any way of a launch happening after October-November 2024. Can happen, but seems extremely unlikely. If anything, a launch before the holidays in 2024 (launch something like summer 2024) seems more likely than a 2025 launch. It's not like the current Switch will up and vanish the second the new console lands. Given the next console will be at least $400 by all reports, I'd expect Nintendo to continue selling a good amount of lower priced Switch consoles for at least a fee financial quarters beyond the Switch 2 release. I'm starting to get the feeling they're holding back Metroid Prime 4 as a dual Switch/Switch 2 release to maintain some interest in the current gen hardware.

Thankfully, the chances if this ever happening are effectively zero for Nintendo and very low for Steam. Seems like Phil Spencer just talking out of his @ss. If it did, man would it ever destroy gaming even more than the Activision takeover. Microsoft sure isn't looking good with these self-inflicted leaks.

https://kotaku.com/microsoft-buy-nin...ail-1850852461

Quote:
Microsoft Casually Discussed Buying Nintendo Or Valve In Leaked Email

A leaked 2020 email from Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer reveals his sustained interest in buying either Nintendo or Steam developer Valve. The Northern District Court of California released the email—along with many other documents from the Federal Trade Commission v. Microsoft lawsuit that, earlier this year, unsuccessfully attempted to block Microsoft’s proposed merge with Call of Duty publisher Activision.

Microsoft first made a pass at acquiring Nintendo back in 1999, when it gave the Zelda developer an offer that caused its execs to “[laugh] their asses off” for at least an hour, Bloomberg reported in 2021. Microsoft has also been rumored to want to nab Valve in the past; though, in 2018, Valve co-founder and former ‘80s Microsoft employee Gabe Newell supposedly told a fan it wasn’t selling.
