Mayhem is an absolutely fantastic movie. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
![]() https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mayhem-4K-Ultra-HD/506383712 https://smile.amazon.com/Mayhem-Blu-...dp/B0766DZ36S/ I found the DVD at DT a couple of years back, eventually bought it digitally on iTunes (also in 4K), and now I'm springing for this. Walmart still has it in stock (as of the time of this post), so you'll get it much sooner, but you need to buy $35 worth of items to get free shipping. Good deal if you were getting groceries anyway. Otherwise, Amazon has free shipping for Prime members, but delivery is not expected until September. |

Indeed. This is a really fun film and that price is fantastic. It was one of my first 4ks long before I had a 4k tv... picked it up for $9.96 then. This isn't a film to buy to show off what 4k can do, but as a fun film in High definition it's a great time.

My notes show I bought this for $7.96 back in March... of 2020, so it has been this cheap for over a year at Wally World. I don't know if Amazon always PMs it or just sometimes. I think I watched it a while ago and found it passable (neither good nor bad). Whether the 4K is worth basically $8 is highly debatable, especially since it doesn't have HDR. I'd say it's worth $5 but whether it'll ever reach $5 is unknown. Perhaps on BF?
I don't remember the studio or label (and I'm not going to look it up), but I think Mayhem belongs with a group of 4K titles Walmart has had for $7.96 (or $9.96): River Runs Red, Stagecoach, Arizona, and Color Out of Space. IIRC, the label that made these did not take the time/money to put HDR on most/all of these, so I'd expect Walmart worked out a good deal for a batch of these last year which they're still selling through. If Walmart sells them for $7.96, I'd guess their cost is $5 or less, but that's just a guess. I'm not sure of the margins these days except the articles saying how B&Ms are thinning media inventory except on items with higher profit margins. Right now, as sad as it is, my Walmart has the most movies of any B&M in my area, even though more than half are DVDs I wouldn't touch. I'm surprised this movie got its own thread over any of the other 4 4Ks in the group. |

This is the note I wrote for myself for Mayhem: [Show spoiler] . In spite of writing that, I caved and paid $7.96 (which isn't dirt cheap) for the 4K because I'm a sucker for cheap 4Ks even if they don't have HDR :-(. I think I also paid $7.96 for Arizona 4K and River Runs Red and Stagecoach 4Ks were $4.95 at HB recently.

For whatever reason, I didn't get the deal back then, so I've been price-tracking it ever since (on CamelCamelCamel.com, which only covers Amazon deals - but since Amazon always price-match someone else anyway, it's still a semi-useful tool for other stores too in a roundabout way). As for whether it's dirt cheap, maybe not quite, but under $8 is definitely still a good price for a 4K movie IMO. That will change a few years from now when discount stores finally start stocking 4Ks regularly (or so we assume/hope). I'm sure the movies you mentioned - this, Arizona, River Runs Red, etc. - will be among the first to show up at BL, DG, DT, etc., but I love Mayhem enough that I'm very happy to pay $8 for it now and get it before Halloween season. |
