Cool picks! I have a $50 gift certificate for Acoustic Sounds that I got for Xmas I need to spend. That AC/DC album will be one of the records I buy. Gotta pick a few others carefully, due to limited funds.

My next 2 are the Mo-fi Frank Sinatras...I really want those!
Frank Sinatra - Nice 'n Easy.jpg

Frank Sinatra - Sings for...Only The Lonely.jpg

Spoke with my store contact at Sunrise Records and he can get them...$43 a piece. Will probably drop by in the next few days and give a deposit. It sucks kinda...they need a deposit on special orders. But hey, I want them!

Ordered an Eric Clapton box set, 4 heavy LP's. Almost ordered the Pearl Jam set then realized it's 4 remixes of the Ten album.. wtf.

No it's way more than that. There are two mixes of Ten.

You get the original mix of Ten on one LP.
You get the Brendan O'Brien mix of Ten on another LP.
You get the 1992 Seattle "Drop in the Park" concert on 2LP's.

In addition to the LP's you get the MTV unplugged show on DVD (hopefully with a 24-bit PCM track in addition to the Dolby 5.1 lossy), a replica cassette of the original demo and some other stuff which collectors may find useful but I do not.

The 2LP concert is worth owning, only available on vinyl. That era is when I think Pearl Jam's live performances were some of the best.

If you're still curious the pre-order price on Amazon is down to $124.

I received a $50 gift certificate for Acoustic Sounds at Xmas, so today I ordered the following:

AC/DC: Black Ice (180g vinyl)
Lou Reed: Transformer (180g vinyl)
Antal Dorati: 3 Stravinsky Ballets (boxed set, 3 x 180g vinyl)
Fritz Reiner: Prokofiev: Lieutenant Kije/Stravinsky: Song of the Nightingale (200g vinyl)

I would have ordered more, but I thought that going $150 over budget would land me in enough trouble with The Boss as it is! But I added a few more to my wishlist, ready for next time...

I'd love to get some more classical, but I have no idea what to buy. Classical is so confusing to me!

I'm mostly in the dark myself--I'm only really familiar with the more popular classical stuff, like the Four Seasons, Beethoven's symphonies, etc. Like I am with jazz, I'm slowly trying to broaden my musical tastes and repetoire. I'm not familiar with the classical pieces I ordered today, but they're supposed to be great performances and excellent recordings. I guess I'll know in a few days whether I like 'em or not!

The other two were safer buys, however. I got Jenny (The Boss) the AC/DC album on CD for Xmas, and I have Transformer on a regular pressing. The sound quality is pretty impressive, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get it on a 180g pressing!

Jazz I'm a little more familiar with and I thank my Dad for that. He's a big classical enthusiast as well, but with all the various interpretations of the same concerto, etc...I'm like completely out of my element. I do know I love Barogue and symphonies more than concertos...but which conductor? which orchestra?...yadda, yadda, yadda!

John

ps...my Dad will be 83 tomorrow...haven't seen him in 10 years (although we talk)...I think a Summer visit is order for the obvious reasons.

John,

That would be a really good idea to see your Dad. Mine passed away last April at 81; he would have been 82 in July.

Just picked up from Sunrise:

Coldplay - Parachutes
Nirvana - In Utero
Radiohead - Pablo Honey

All for $13.99 at Sunrise! I know the vinyl guy there, so I gets a well reduced price.

I just realized how that reads - I meant $13.99/each, not $13.99 for three new records!!
Haha.

I figured as much, Steve! I went today and picked up My Morning Jacket- Evil Urges, but I couldn't get the kind of deal you got. Still @ $17.10 CDN it's a good price when you consider AcousticSounds has it listed for $19.98USD.
