The lower prices pushed me over the edge. I bought 4 online and will pick them up on the way into work this morning.

Edit: I got the four discs this morning. They need to be wiped off. They have a fair number of little particles / white specs on the bottom, but they otherwise look to be in great shape. No scratches. A very small partial fingerprint on one of them. I expect after carefully wiping with a microfiber that they will play fine.

So it looks like the boxes in local Kroger stores are the only ones that sell the "4K" discs. The ones in the local Meijer and Walmart stores do not sell them, but they do have them for rent. It looks like the boxes may only have one copy of each title that's for sale. The box I bought the 4 titles from no longer have those 3 of the 4 titles available.

I picked up Fury Road today for $5. Flawless condition, possibly never rented. I am worried that Redbox selling these means they may be done with 4K. The dvd from my Best Buy Steelbook is going bye bye and this in its place. Not a mediocre set now.

I was curious about disc damage. How are they with returns/exchanges if disc is damaged or otherwise doesn't work?

The sale really doesn't make sense if that's the case. Not all the "4K" titles in a given box are for sale, some are still rent only. And there are boxes that don't have any of their "4K" titles for sale (all rent only). Around here only one of three chains that have Redboxes in the stores has "4K" titles for sale. The boxes in the other two chains are only renting their "4K" titles.

Picked up Mad Max, Inception, and SW: Solo. MM and Inception are 4k upgrades and Solo is a blind buy. Total was only like $18! Can't get that kinda deal from members on here.

Are you sure Mad Max is an upgrade? The review of it seems to not have a whole lot nice to say about the HDR grading. No upgrade on the audio side since the Blu-ray already has Atmos.

Really? The HDR on this disc is one of its best qualities. The blues, reds, yellows, oranges, pick a color. They are all amazing in this disc. The details in the 4k are also much better. the truck, clothes, faces. Its a huge upgrade.

...If you watch the extras on the Fury Road Blu-ray, it's obvious that the film's flame effects are a combination of practical and CG, but on the UHD almost every flame looks like a painted cartoon. Just as the enhanced depth and detail are pulling you into the film's ravaged wasteland, the artificiality of these effects pushes you back out. The same is true for the fierce dust storm in which Furiosa first loses her pursuers; in its theatrical and Blu-ray presentation, the storm was convincing and credible, but on UHD one is struck by the obviousness of the computer imagery.

Plus I rented it from redbox before I bought it and saw for myself it’s a lights out transfer and disc.

The downside in the UHD is that in the theatre and the Blu-ray the storms was more convincing, but in the 4k UHD it looks fake and can be easily understood as computer imagery. Other than the storms, many scenes seem more colorful, which makes it artificial and kind of cartoon-like in the 4k UHD. The 4K presentation is also hurt from a few noticeable artifacts worth mentioning. Most notably, more than a few instances of mosquito noise that can be easily seen in the blue sky. Some of the scenes in the background are distracting due to the excess addition of color.

However, now I'm going to buy a copy for $4.99 so I can make my own determination.
