Our Marantz AV10 that is set-up in one of our new Cinema demo rooms performs flawlessly. No crackling or any unwanted noise from any of the 13 speakers.

I assume those who posted on the other forum have a defective AV10 or maybe they got a electrical spike.

I'm not sure about the electrical spikes cuz it seems like it's happened to more than just a few folks, but they're currently gathering manufacturing dates now to try and narrow it down to perhaps a particular manufacturing run.

EDIT: It seems those affected have the manufacturing date of 0922 (first four digits of the serial number after the letters).

Thanks! Unfortunately not...I have some firmware downloading and install prep to do before I get it into my system and connected, so gotta borrow the wifey's laptop, etc. I'm also a little slow on the uptake when it comes to stuff like this...I tend to take my time, read up, do my research, measuring and such, etc. Hope to get around to it this coming week though.

That is a beauty.....congrats. I tend to do the same and research a lot. I much prefer to have a grasp of what is necessary to dial in a piece of equipment like that prior to integrating it.

Fair enough. I'm usually gung-ho about it, but I always go through the manual. I prefer a pdf copy if available and spend the evening before reading through it, and it's also much easier to search text in a pdf copy during install. I've grown to hate hard copy. I've spent plenty a night reading manuals into the wee hours of the morning. I don't think I've ever had a processor/AVR where I didn't get it up and going the first weekend I had it. Not comparing or suggesting you do the same, I'm just crazy like that lol.

I get, ya! All good, we all approach things differently.

Funny cuz while PDFs of the manual are great for, as you said, searching, I have always liked to make my own notes on a hard/printed copy that I'll keep close by for reference.

One thing that is kinda weighing on my purchase is that there *may* be a potential issue with the production run from September that my unit *may* be a part of. I REALLY don't wanna disconnect my old one and connect this one only to have to disconnect it later for return if there is in fact an issue, so I'm kinda waiting with baited breath on what happens with that (a few folks on that other message board have already contacted Marantz about it). Unfortunately, that's part and parcel with being an early adopter from time to time.

So, are you saying your new unit has a serial number that includes the 0922 manufacturing date or you don't know yet?

I don't blame you for putting the brakes on adding it to your system. How long do you think it will be before Marantz gets back to you (and others) about the issue?

Actually, making notes is exactly one of the reasons why I've switched to PDF. You can highlight and add comments to highlighted text, and that's native to Edge in Windows 10. Sometimes I'll also open the pdf in Google Docs, which then makes the document editable right then and there. But again, just my preference, I know that doesn't work for everybody. I just type way faster than I write, and sometimes I can't read my own chicken-scratch to boot lol.

Yikes. I saw your the other post about the manuf. date. Even a bigger reason not to rush into it. Do you know if it affects all units?

Good question, I'm not sure. I saw others on that thread have reached out to Marantz personally and already have the wheels in motion on replacement units.

Haha yeah, I guess I'm just a bit old school.

Right. From what I've read, the folks that have been affected have units from that 0922 production run. I'm not entirely sure if it's just the folks that have certain physical configurations that trigger the crackling condition or what, but Marantz is for sure aware of it by now. I have just reached out to my dealer as well.

I just had a conversation with my dealer and he had me send him the link to the thread over at the other message boards. He's going to forward it to his Marantz rep that he has a good relationship with and go from there.

That's a start.....hope they address it sooner than later. Its great to jump on these new flagship processors and be the first one on your block with one, but sometimes the early birds (relatively speaking) can work out more to be guinea pigs.

Precisely. My concern is that if I don't address it now, integrate it in my system and then something occurs further down the line, I'll simply be delaying the headache that comes with that.

Right again. I wanted to get a jump on this piece so I didn't have to wait once the word gets out on how awesome it is and the wait list builds up, but at the same time, early adopters are not always but sometimes QC testers and in the extreme cases, guinea pigs.

That's really good to hear at least, but hopefully without having to eat up the warranty. I've had that happen before with Marantz on a new unit so I ended up returning it.

Exactly! While it sucks that we as consumers tend to be beta testers at times, it's difficult if not impossible to catch everything with these niche products with complex ICs/DSPs. I won't necessarily forgive manufacturers for missing stuff, but gone are the simpler days when there was less processing and we just plugged things in and they worked. But I wouldn't trade what A/V tech has been able to deliver these days for yesterday's lesser headaches.

Yep totally agree. It's just a somewhat bitter pill to swallow when you shell out that kind of money for a flagship piece of gear.

Welp, a Marantz rep has just chimed in in the thread at the other forum:

Hi all, Gary from Marantz here. Just a quick note to let you know that we're investigating this channel output noise issue and have not yet determined a root cause. If you're experiencing this issue, please do what you can to record the circumstances under which the noise appears and share that with us and contact your dealer for service or exchange.

Best regards,
Gary

For those considering this unit, a user over there posted this video of what it sounds like:
