Default Stephen King's The Stand CBS Limited Series

Hmm, not sure if this good or bad news. After Under the Dome, and considering how good the original was, and given CBS...

If we can get the original series on Blu, that would be great.

Doing this on tv that can't show good stuff is a bad move. This needs to be tvma just like the purge series and vikings.

Regards the editing of the Stand tv series being on video, I guess so. But they would have been in the same boat with the IT miniseries. I'm so glad we got a Blu ray of that. I'd have preferred The Stand on HD over IT, but I'm happy to have IT.

Which is why partially we're cringing with the thought of familiy friendly CBS having it. Especially after they totally messed up Under the Dome.

There was nothing wrong with the old miniseries, The Stand, IT. They weren't hard MA but they really covered the books so well. Even if they did shot by shot remakes of the original series, they'd be great.

This title will be released on September 24, 2019.

BluRay Thread Is Here

CBS All Access "The Stand" Splash Page

Regarding this as a theatrical, IMO it would not work, even as a multi film series. I am doubtful that 10 1 hour episodes will be enough to do it justice. Casting will obviously be crucial.

IMO the weakest link in the OG Mini was Molly Ringwald, as I thought everyone else was exceptional.

Stephen's greatest work.

I am really surprised that with the theatrical success of It, they chose to go with CBS All Access.

I agree with all.

I'd love a blu ray of the original The Stand. And a lot of the others, like The Tommyknockers.

Were they even produced on film? Pretty sure they were edited on video, in which DVD is the best we’ll get

They may have had some low res cg. but all filmed. Like IT.

Those 80s 90s King miniseries were so good.

Shot on film yes, but The Stand was edited on tape; they would literally have to reassemble the entire film from scratch. The best we can hope for is an uprezed version of the DVD.

I think it was shot on 16mm. I’d assume editing was done on video though.

Oh no this is irritating news. This is so suited for the big screen especially considering the success of IT.
The Stand is one of my favorite books, read it multiple times when I was younger. Back when it came out on ABC I was excited for it and enjoyed it but it has not aged well especially considering all the talent involved.
If this stayed on tv I was hoping it would be HBO or somewhere where it could get a good budget, play as dark and uncensored as needed.

I'm not thrilled with CBS, but I'm even less thrilled with Josh Boone...

Same here. I'm willing to give them both a fair shot, but with King properties, you need a director willing to fight for the material. When the material is allowed to get out of hand/changed by studio executives at every turn (see Dark Tower), you're just wasting your time. I hope Boone can give it the treatment it deserves.

Dude, this is not CBS network television, it's their streaming service CBS All Access.

Yeah, they even made Star Trek Discovery sort of R-rated with f-bombs, nudity, and violence. I wouldn’t worry too much about The Stand yet.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about "The Stand". Especially if the CBS part is what worries you. CBS All Access is a streaming service that works just like Netflix, Prime Video and others. So no worries there.

On the creative side, we'll just have to wait and see how Josh Boone's take on the material is.
It's a little bit of a bummer that they're not going theatrical with this. I find that a two-part movie in the vein of "It" could've done it justice.

But I get it, studios are incredibly risk-averse these days. And this isn't as iconic as "It", which has a huge mainstream following mainly because of the 1990 mini-series. It was a huge hit around the globe, and established Pennywise as an icon as big as Freddy Krueger and others.
