Default Criteron on Hulu

I recently watched Eraserhead and Cronos on Hulu and they both looked like ass. Really, like DVD upscaled to 720p. I know it's only Hulu and that their streaming service isn't that good, but still, there's no way that what I watched was Criterion's work. How they can advertise a whole Criterion section, but not use Criterion's masters?

umm are you sure you selected HD on the bottom? there is high and then HD.
I created these two Eraserhead screenshots (which lowers the quality since its a screenshot) from my mac, I have my monitor set up w a higher brightness than the reviewer screenshot as well , but IMO looks more or less the same? I don't have the BD to compare though. For me is is more than decent for a stream, afaik hulu only goes up to 720 so I think the stream is very decent unless you are watching it on a huge tv or something. Also, the hulu plus app on the atv (I guess in others is the same) it auto adjusts for connection vs quality.

My screenshots from Hulu Plus on my mac w/ monitor (they even show more detail than the reviewer from the bd):

vs reviewer screenshot from the BR review:

I've never had a problem with the quality on Hulu. It's always been in HD.

I get Hulu in HD, but it's my least favorite streaming provider I use, in terms of quality. It's acceptable, but I'm really glad Filmstruck is coming about and I hope it's higher quality.

Does this mean the end of Criterion on Hulu when Filmstrucks starts? (I know CW is going away on august)

On their page it says: "Exclusive streaming home of The Criterion Collection."

Sometimes quality can be inconsistent. They posted Breaker Morant on Hulu before the disc release and those were two completely different transfers. The Hulu version was pretty beat up.

However, they also post the Criterion transfers as well, (i.e. A Brief History of Time).

Yes, Hulu often has old masters. I do get HD versions on my PS3 when available. I do agree with ghandi, that it's the weakest streaming quality as far as streaming services go.

No more cw and criterions it's going to be a big hit for Hulu. Plus Netflix getting all the Disney and marvel. I have all three services and I'm using Hulu more than Netflix and Amazon. They do have some good anime and adult swim cartoons which are good.
