I'm not big on it myself since I'm more of a mammalogist at heart (and by training), but I've got several ornithologist colleagues that are huge birders. Many of them have long life lists and one has one that is well into the thousands thanks to all the international traveling he does for research.

We had a tropical storm roll through yesterday so my wife had to take down the 2 bird feeders. It was kind of sad because the group of doves, and the cardinal family were all confused as they were wondering where their seeds were. The cardinals ended up with the doves as bottom feeders when it was literally pouring. We had no choice because the winds were strong at times, but didn't last long. Feeders are back up this morning and back to normal.

Forgot to post, but the other day I spotted a bright green hummingbird on our flowers. Too bad my wife was in the backyard. I told my wife and was very excited so she prepared their food sugar thingies to attract more.

We have a Blue jay living in our back yard or one of the bordering ones. Very beautiful bird to spot in the yard. My kids like to watch him. They are not rare where I live, but not super common either. You don't see them every day.

I have a woodpecker for an alarm clock. Every morning the little guy taps on the tree by my back window.

OP I recommend the film Big Year

update on the baby dove: It's out of the nest testing its wings, so looks like this one is going to survive. Really don't want to get too close for a pic, might screw something up; fall into the bushes or whatever. Never knew they had stripes when they're young.
