I'm considering upgrading from my current Audio Engine A5+ to something that is more open, dynamic yet can still rock for my computer music/gaming desktop. I have a couple of options. Right now, the front running seems to be the SVS Ultra bookshelf speakers. Others include, Klipsch RP600, B&W 606/607, Paradigm Premiere 200B, Paradigm Prestige 15B(top end of the budget). I have an older Marantz SR7009 sitting in the closet that I will be using as amplification to at least start with. I will keep the Audio Engine sub for now.
I have a Topping DX7 Pro DAC coming that will replace the Audio Engine DAC D1. I'm a fan of biamping, so speakers that have this option add to a plus column, but it's not a big minus if they don't......just a preference. The B&W's are hard to drive, and although the Marantz has enough power, I'm concerned about the 4ohm impedance, particularly if I biamp. I think the new Anniversary 606/607 models have biamping. Both Paradigm's don't have biamp, but I have owned Paradigm's Monitor 11 v7's in my theater room for years. But for nearfield on my desk, I'm considering something a little more open, more dynamic, more detail and "possibly" above all........engaging. The Audio Engine's have served me well for years and their HD6 offering, to me, is no good. Any thoughts are appreciated...... |

The Premier 200B is 20% off right now.
I have the 800F’s and 600C and they’re excellent! I had Monitor v7’s before, but the 9’s. They were great! You’ve got some very nice options picked out and will do well. |
