As I indicated in Post #1, Richard Vanderseen is the champion of time and phase coherency. He has designed speakers so that you can adjust the backward tilt of the speaker so that all the drivers are perfectly synchronized and their signals converge at the listener's ears. The angle of tilt depends on how far the listener is from the speaker. In their owner's manual, there is a graph that tells you the required amount of offset in relation to the distance of the listening position.

Nice I read some info on his site and he does realize that you lose dynamics (unless you have the Quattro) I thought about using two more DCX2496 units to tri-amp my front array (yes I would need 6 more channels of amplification...no sweat). This would allow the DCX's to time and phase align the Heresy speakers digitally (a guy in HT Magazine did this with his La Scalas) just a thought

My Bostons are speaker coherent< The front is curved back & the drivers are all angled differently. Of course they are not $100,000 speakers

Sonist is another company that makes phase coherent speakers.

This is a picture of their Concerto 3 tower speaker. They uses ribbon tweeters and the list price is $3,495 a pair.

Hardwired First Order Crossovers

With only two crossover elements, a first order coil on the woofer and a first order capacitor on the tweeter, more of the music is delivered to the drivers. All crossovers are hand-soldered with
Cardas Tri Eutectic lead-free solder. The crossover is potted in an epoxy resin to prevent micro-vibrations from degrading the signal, and the pot enclosure is decoupled from the cabinet with neoprene, mounted to the cabinet walls with allen bolts with neoprene washers. Positive and negative wires for the tweeter and woofer are twisted together to prevent inductive signal degradation. Bi-wire and bi-amp capable.

Time-aligned ribbon tweeters with very light diaphragms respond quickly up to 40KHz, providing phase-coherent harmonic overtones, accurate timbre, and improved spatialization.

They also make Concerto 2 bookshelf speakers. The list price is $2,495 a pair.

This is one of the reasons I went with the Quatros over the 3A signatures. With a built in sub, you can place the Quatro where it will image the best, and then "tune" the bass to that location. It has been my experience that the best place for imaging is NOT the best place for the best bass. Also, the Quatros have proven to be easier to drive, as the low bass has it's own built in sub and takes some of the load off of the main amplifier.

FWIW, adjusting the angle of the speaker to your listening position is reasonably straight forward with his instructions in the owner's manual. I was "in between" 2 of the spacers and experimented between the 2 to determine the best angle. Well worth the extra effort...

I'm gonna go ahead and do it!!!! Instead of actively crossing over my Heresy speakers, I'm going to install ALK's new Cornscala-Wall Universal crossover (yes it's a 1st order crossover)!
