I agree the XXL is a fantastic center channel. My setup consists of Triton Ones, SCXXL, Aon2 surrounds and a Power Sound Audio V1500 to cover the ULF.
I'm running an Anthem AVM 60 and Sunfire amp for the front end. |

It is not much different than the two to my ears. Can get a pair of used T2's for around 1700.00 a pair.
The T2+ has better components. If you want the performance of the Triton one and have an external sub then the T5 is the way to go. There is also the new Reference Triton in piano black. It is active. Won't be too long before there is a passive Reference Speaker i am sure. Won't surprise me if there is a new powered Reference center to. |

https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...speaker-review Also review coming from Absolute Sound in August. ![]() ![]() ![]() I think I pretty well addressed any comparisons and contrasts between the Triton Two+ and Triton One in the Performance section above, but it may be worth reiterating a few points here. On the one hand, they do sound remarkably similar, which is no mean feat given that the Triton Two+ sells for $3,500 per pair and the Triton One for $5,000. On the other hand, those comparisons were made with volumes matched. Needless to say, the Triton One is capable of cranking out a lot more sound than the Triton Two+. If you have a very large room and you've been eyeing the One, don't assume that you can save a few bucks on the Two+ and get the same level of output. That said, if you've been eyeing the One but just can't justify the expense due to limited space or budgetary reasons, here's your answer. As for other speakers in this price range that you might consider: Definitive Technology's new BP9080x comes in at the same $1,749/each price and certainly shares a good bit in common with the Triton Two+. It has an active bass section, for example, powered by a 455-watt internal amplifier. There's also an LFE input. There are some significant differences, though. The BP9080x is a bipolar design with front- and rear-firing arrays. It's also equipped with an expansion module on top designed to receive Definitive's add-on height-speaker module. If it's the folded motion tweeter that you're enamored with but you don't really care much about the active bass section or strong dynamic punch, you might also consider MartinLogan's Motion 60XT, which has a similar tweeter but with a passive 6.5-inch mid-woofer and two passive eight-inch low-frequency woofers. You can read more about it in Brent Butterworth's review here. Conclusion It's hard to review a GoldenEar speaker without sounding like a fanboy. I fully acknowledge that, and I've been on the receiving end of my fair share of angry comments to that effect. I simply can't hide my enthusiasm when a speaker does pretty much exactly what I want it to do, though. The Triton Two+ delivers incredible depth, palpable detail, exceptional neutrality (especially in the midrange frequencies), and rich, ample, tactile bass that's as musical as it is muscular. What more could you want? Well, I suppose you could always ask for more SPL, and for that there's the Triton One. If you don't have the room to really let the Triton One loose, though, the Triton Two+ is the next best thing (or maybe the next better thing considering its price). It's everything I love about the Triton One--the detail, the transparency, the depth of its soundstage, and the dynamics--scaled down to a size that better fits my home and my lifestyle. |

I had come close to ordering a pair of the Triton One's when they first came out in 2014. I decided to hang on to the Magnepan 1.7's and haven't regretted that decision. Now, however, with the release of the new Triton Reference, I'm beginning to rethink that.
There is one Golden Ear dealer in my area. Not sure if and when he'll get a pair of the Reference in his shop, but I would really like the opportunity to audition them. So far, everything that I have heard and read about the new reference suggests it is a special speaker and outstanding value. We'll have to see how this goes... ![]() Last edited by FreddieFerric; 10-01-2017 at 10:30 PM. |

Just saw this on hometheaterreview.com looks like the digital aktiv above but is passive.
GoldenEar has announced that it will be giving demos of its new Bookshelf Reference X (BRX) speaker at this week's CEDIA Expo in Denver, in Sound Room 2. The new BRX, which is effectively a passive version of the company's highly-lauded DR 3 powered wireless speaker, delivers rated frequency response of 40Hz to 35kHz, 90Hz efficiency, and is designed to handle up to 250 watts per channel. Pricing is set at $599 each, and the speaker is expected to ship in Q1 2020. Read on for full details from the press release: GoldenEar Technology is pleased to announce the introduction of a new ultra-high-performance compact bookshelf/stand-mount loudspeaker, the BRX, at the 2019 CEDIA EXPO. The goal of the BRX development project was to create a gorgeous, luxuriously finished, ultra-compact loudspeaker which would incorporate the latest advanced technology developed for GoldenEar's Triton Reference, Reference One.R and DR 3, in order to achieve truly superb sonic performance typical of larger, much more expensive units. The BRX is basically a passive version of the groundbreaking DR 3 powered wireless loudspeaker. It incorporates a 6" cast-basket bass/midrange driver with a focused-field magnet structure. The cone is formed with a proprietary curve, from a special formulation of polypropylene, which combines superior internal damping with a high speed of wave transmission through the cone (Young's Modulus). This is basically the same driver used in the award-winning Triton Reference tower. The tweeter is the Reference High-Gauss High-Velocity Folded Ribbon, the same used in both the Triton Reference and Triton One.R as well as the DR 3 and SPS. The two drivers are perfectly blended with a unique "balanced crossover" with a floating configuration that incorporates high quality film capacitors. New internal speaker wire, which has a unique twist as in the Triton Reference, is utilized. A pair of inertially balanced 6.5" planar infrasonic radiators located on either side of the cabinet, acoustically load the active 6" driver as well as couple the internal bass energy to the room for tight, quick, extended bass response. The beautifully styled 12"H x 8"W x 12.25" D cabinet is luxuriously finished in hand-rubbed piano black lacquer. The BRX has been engineered to deliver superior reference level performance for both two channel as well as home theater systems of the highest quality, with extraordinary three-dimensional imaging and high-resolution clarity. It has been voiced to match the Reference towers, with a tremendous sense of you-are-there lifelike immediacy. Overall frequency response is 40-35 kHz, efficiency is 90 dB and recommended associated amplification is 10-250 watts/channel. Projected US retail price is $599 each and delivery is expected in the first quarter of 2020. |

Triton Reference R Review
Hometheaterhifi.com ![]() The One.R may be the pinnacle, to date. I don’t know if it’s pixie dust, secret sauce or simply, good sound engineering from a skilled, experienced group at GoldenEar, but whatever they put out seems to consistently hit the mark. Highly recommended. Enough that I got a pair for myself! |
