Help with speakers - Blu-ray Forum

I just moved into a new house and have a basement that I will turn into a home theatre.

I am looking for options on speakers. The two I'm looking at are the Definitive Technology Pro Cinema 600 (currently onsale) and the Klipsch Reference series.

I was going to do 5.1.2 and put two in ceiling speakers in.

I know nothing about tech of this stuff. If I have ceiling speakers would it be consider Atmos (with an Atmos receiver)?

I'm not a major audiophile, so I don't think I want to spend a ton of money on speakers, so I'm leaning towards the DT Pro Cinema, but the Klipcshs look real nice. But it is a difference of over $600.

Any suggestions? Tips? etc.

I can't speak for the Def Techs as I've never heard them, but I have a Klipsch Reference setup (older models) and have been extremely pleased with them. I bought my center and surrounds used, so look around and see what people are selling. You can find some good deals that way.

Yes, ceiling speakers will give you an Atmos setup if you have a capable receiver.

What is your budget? Personally I'm a fan of DefTech and recently upgraded to the bp9060. I haven't heard the pro cinema 600s but most reviews seem positive.

Well if you're not a major audiophile, you don't need to spend a lot of money on high end or state of the art speakers and other audio equipment, especially Dolby Atmos.

Def Tech speakers are supposed to be really good.

Top picks floorstanding speakers

I would personally go with Def Tech speakers.

It looks like Klipsh is having a sale the next few days. I was thinking about the following... please offer any suggestions:

Klipsch Reference Premiere RP-250C
Klipsch Reference R-10SW
Klipsch Reference R-26F
Klipsch Reference R-15M

Total would be $948. Would it be better to just get 4 bookshelfs instead of the R-26?

Does anyone recommend the R-14S? Maybe I could use those for my rears instead?

I will recommend Klipsch RP-8000F or SVS SB-3000. Both the floorstanding speakers are working great for me.
