I started using Polk S10's for my computer speakers. Unfortunately, the Creative Audigy RX I am using does not have the capability to output 2.1 via analog.
I am unable to use my Onkyo receiver for subwoofer management so I purchased a Fosi Audio v1.0G miniature amplifier to use with the Polks. I can only describe the sounds as "can get so loud and clear but lacks bass". I might have to invest in another miniature amplifier like the Micca Origain in order to be able to use my Polk PSW10 subwoofer with my system. |

Back when I ordered my Polk's, (early 2000's) RT55i bookshelf, F/X 500i surrounds, the matching center was on back order so I ended up getting a CS245i center speaker, which worked well enough for all those years. Well, I found a CS400i in really good condition and I hooked it up today and calibrated the speakers and the difference is amazing. I'm loving how "full and filled" everything sounds without having to push the volume.
The size difference between the 245 and 400 is shocking. The 400 is a big boy! Now if only I had a place big enough to be able to hook up the surrounds because the F/X 500i's are a sweet set of speakers. |

I think I've opened a can of worms and I'm looking for opinions/advice.
I bought the Polk Monitor series about a decade ago and I'm happy with it. Recently I decided to finally get an Atmos set up so I bought the Polk XT90s. When I sit them on top of my existing Polks, it kinda irked me that they don't match and made me look into the new line of Monitor series. I ended up caving and ordering XT70 fronts, XT30 center and XT20 rears to match. Here's my conundrum...are these even upgrades or am I actually downgrading? My current setup: Fronts: Polk Audio Monitor60 Series II Floorstanding Loudspeaker Center: Polk Audio CS2 Series II Center Channel Speaker Rears: Polk Audio Monitor 40 Series II Bookshelf Speaker The fronts clearly seem like they will be upgrades but the center and rears are where I'm questioning myself. The Monitor 40 rears have 2 5.25 woofers while the new XT20 has a single 6.5 woofer. Would a single 6.5 be able to match 2 5.25 woofers? The big one though is the center channel. My current CS2 center has 2 6.5 woofers while the XT30 has 2 5.25 woofers and is clearly smaller in size. I've already received the center and rears and I'm waiting on the fronts. Did I make a mistake and will this be a downgrade or did the 10+ years in tech make a difference and will it actually be an upgrade despite the smaller speaker size? I'm mostly worried about the center channel not sounding as good. Last edited by dcx4610; 12-01-2022 at 06:26 AM. |
