Should also note that the English staff credit rolls are exactly the same as the original releases, though there is a Disc Credits on the last disc in the extras (it's always the last disc on Sentai's stuff since November 2018 when they brought that feature back).

These also have new discs but re-used the English staff credit rolls from the original discs, they have a Disc Credits page though with differences:

-Armored Trooper Votoms (Only difference in staff is Ryan Anthony helped Joel McCray author the complete set)
-Den-noh Coil (Original release was 4 discs)
-Gatchaman Collector's Edition
-Gatchaman Crowds + Insight Complete Collection
-Kino's Journey SDBD (Is basically a literal port of the 2017 release as the opening disclaimer has "this DVD" instead of "this disc")
-K-On! (No disc credits page, only new credits are on the back covers of the cases, indicating this was likely planned to be released earlier but Sentai wasn't allowed to. See: https://twitter.com/BigOnAnime/statu...72810850271232)
-La Corda d'Oro: Primo Passo (DVD)
-Royal Space Force (2019 release re-uses 2013 credit rolls, has new disc credits)

Best Release: 2016 Hosoda Collection
The Girl Who Leapt Thru Time had a DVD Extras disc (containing extras not on the Blu-ray Disc) in its 2016 standard and Hosoda Collection releases. Below are the extras only on the DVD Extras disc.

Quote:
Direction File: "A Talk with the Director" (34:26)
Behind the Scenes at Premiere Screening Event (9:41)
Premiere Screening Event (13:46)
Hanako Oku "Garnet" Music Video (5:19)
Theatrical Trailer (1:49)
Promotional Clip (00:32)
The 2018 Mamoru Hosoda Movie Collection Box Set dropped the both the film DVD and DVD Extras disc. So the box set only has the extras (Storyboards, Feature Commentary, Feature with Storyboard Commentary (different participants), and the US Trailer) included on the Blu-ray Disc (despite new disc art and menu design changes to match the box set).

The 2018 box set actually has 4 Funimation Digital Copy Codes (for each film) and 1 UV Code (which unlocked all four films (subbed and dubbed) within one collection on Vudu at the time of release when UV was still active).

Needless was originally released back when Sentai was still doing the Blu-rays in the VC-1 encoding for being 1 of their 1st Blu-rays. The Complete Series Set reduces the disc count to 3 from 4 and now uses AVC.

Appleseed originally was VC-1 as well but then went to AVC for the Sentai Selects release. Also the original only had standard DTS 5.1 and Dolby 5.1 Audio while the Sentai Selects release uses DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

I'm so glad I decided to get the individual movies instead of the Mamoru Hosoda boxset.

Anyone know if there are any improvements to Ef A Tale of Memories & Melodies Blu-ray from 2014 compared to the 2012 releases? Does the 2020 steelbook use the 2014 discs? I own the 2012 releases and was wondering if I should replace it with the 2014 collection.

In all likelihood the SteelBook has entirely new discs compared to the 2014 release with different English credit rolls, further improved video and audio quality, and a further improved translation. Sentai very rarely re-uses discs to the point you can basically assume any re-release has entirely new discs (The exceptions: https://myanimelist.net/blog.php?eid=839664). I don't have the 2012 release, but the 2014 release had entirely new discs, and was authored by Joel McCray. I heard the original release wasn't very good, which isn't surprising. Most David Williams authored discs had issues, even the menus would have noticeable compression artifacts. Something I do know about how the 2014 release release would compare to the old release is that the subs are significantly smaller and not hilariously huge. In 2014, Sentai finally stopped making their Blu-ray subs way too big.

I own the 2014 collection of Ef: A Tale of Memories/Melodies and despite those discs having been re-authored from the 2012 discs, the video quality is still subpar. The Memories discs in particular have a ridiculous amount of banding and the compression isn't great. The 2014 discs still suffer from artifacts in the menus too. I think this set came out before Sentai really started improving their overall quality. I'm not sure if it would be worth replacing the 2012 discs for it.

Now the new Steelbook release however likely has newly authored discs but it hasn't been confirmed yet. The video quality on that release could potentially be an upgrade.

Something to add on here, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. The Collections reduced the disc count from 10 across the five Parts to just 8. Additionally, the subtitle font was significantly improved. In 2012, FUNimation changed the font for their Blu-ray subtitles to be much more legible after numerous complaints they were too hard to read, especially during brighter scenes. There's also a slight change on who worked on the Parts vs. the Collections. Anyone curious about those can see them on the ANN page.
