I admit if this was affordable for me, I'd be so on it. Watching the dub (one of the dubs? I think different regions got different dubs) on Canadian TV when I was a little kid was probably my intro to anime (the same station also aired Kimba).

You'd be right. The US and Canada each got a different dub.

Sony owns overseas rights to the 2003 Astro Boy series. I don't think they dubbed all of it, as Tezuka only gave CTHV episodes that were completed at the time. I believe at least the first season or so was finished on 35mm and animated in native widescreen, making it one of the last anime productions to be done on film. Sony does indeed have proper HD masters for the episodes they dubbed.
