Warner Archive was a separate team, and now they've been folded into the general Warner Bros. home entertainment division, along with layoffs due to redundancy and general downsizing (something going on all over the industry due to the pandemic).

Warner is still restoring its back catalogue, and Warner is one of the most prolific disc-releasing studios among the majors, so I don't doubt that releases will continue. Even their streaming exclusives have been released to disc very very quickly, so anyone peddling "all they care about is HBO Max, say goodbye to disc releases!" is fear-mongering, in my opinion. Disc releases and streaming can be additive, and Warner seems to recognize this more than any other studio. The layoffs are certainly not good news, but given all the above context, I don't agree with some of the assumptions being made here.

George Feltenstein has been one of the primary engines of that literally for thirty-five years, to the extent that it’s difficult to separate “what Warner’s has done” from what Feltenstein has proven possible. Is this doomsday? Certainly not. But these are not necessarily overblown concerns.

George Feltenstein has contributed greatly to classic film preservation and release at WB, and I have nothing but praise for him. But my statement encompasses more than Feltenstein's work - modern titles, streaming-exclusive titles, TV shows, kids titles, etc. have all been released on disc by Warner Bros. at a rate much higher than all other major studios, so Warner's commitment to physical releases is high across the board.

Sure, but at what quality? WAC was well known for the quality of their restorations and releases. That's great for catalogue preservation, but the costs involved in well done catalog preservation aren't exactly a profit center.

I still think the AT&T merger is still too recent to know anything for sure. The Warner Bros. of the past is no more. It is still too early to know the Warner Bros. of the present and future.

That's it exactly. Pick doom and gloom or pick Pollyanna. Both are valid choices at this point and neither is right or wrong yet, no matter how much one invests in their abilities to prognosticate and deduce. At the end of all this discussion, which is interesting and entertaining regardless, there are still few certainties at the moment. So don't bet the cow on either one.

I'm not going to dwell on something I have no control over. Instead, I'm going to enjoy the films I have, and look forward to finding out what titles are yet forthcoming. However long we have, I'm going to enjoy the ride.

I've really grown to love Warner Archive. Out of all the studios I buy from, I would wager they're my favorite right now. And that's because the people that worked for the label put in a great deal of hard work making the collection a success. Their releases are consistently of the highest quality, and they choose the movies I want to own. I can't thank them enough.

Even if the line ends here (page 1000!), I still appreciate all the films that have come out on pressed blu-rays, which is a marked improvement from the initial MOD program. There aren't too many movies I can think of which was missed, especially if you include the DVDs.

Anyone have guesses as to when DOCTOR X (out tomorrow) actually begins to show up at people's doors? I ordered with Prime two weeks ago but my delivery date is April 21-May 5. In an ideal world, it'd ship out today and be here tomorrow or Wednesday.

How long ago did you pre-order it?

Still waiting on mine—8 Blu and 6 DVD—but I’m not panicked quite yet.

TBH, Amazon is notoriously unreliable for WAC titles. You can just search through this thread for numerous posts about that subject.

Mine has been shipped and scheduled to be delivered via Prime tomorrow, but I preordered almost as soon as I saw it had gone up; not sure if that makes a difference. Could also be regional availability, where the Prime guarantees are concerned? (I’m in west Tennessee, FWIW.)

I pre-ordered mine last week from Amazon and got the shipping notice today. I have had WAC titles take weeks to ship in the past, however. It's hit or miss with Amazon.

Out of curiosity, was “out for delivery” the first notice you got about the shipment? And who did it come from — a wbshop dot com email, UPS, or other?

You are fortunate. That's the same day I ordered, and it may be close to another month before mine comes based on current estimates. I was hoping the new WA-Amazon partnership would lead to new titles getting shipped in a more timely manner.

I got two emails from WB Shop simultaneously - one that it was on its way and one saying it was out for delivery. Looking at UPS, it went out a couple days ago but they must not have added it to my order until today, which I guess is why some people don't get shipping notifs until after delivery.
