Anybody buy this fantastic film on release day and care to comment on the video quality/audio quality?
The reviews that I'm reading are leading me to wonder if it's worth upgrading my 2-disc DVD...

I got my copy from Amazon along with All The Pressident's Men. I just wish KLUTE could get a blu release. :-)

I will look it over a little tonite, prob won't watch it till this weekend. A member wants me to check the SUBS on the bonus materials, most companies don't ever specify subtitle options or if any are on the bonus features.

I think NETWORK is one of the best films from the 1970's. It never gets old IMO. Everyone is so great in the film. They just don't make films like these anymore.

Blind bought this today because at first I learned it was Paul Thomas Anderson's favorite film (PTA is my fav director) and then after I watched Lumet's Dog Day Afternoon, I was even more excited to see this.

Watched it after work and loved it. A very awesome, unique film and I can definitely see where PTA gets some of his traits and filming characteristics from.

Can't wait to watch the special features!

As far as PQ and AQ.... I'm not the best judge of those things but I thought both were well above average. The PQ isn't demo quality of course, but it looks probably like it should. Consistent but not distracting grain that adds a great feel to the film. Audio-wise, there are a few moments where shouting sounds a bit too close to a mic and I had to wince a bit lol but it seems like most older films suffer a little bit of this. But since it's a dialogue heavy film the AQ is great and gets the job done. Dialogue is almost always clear, even with many people talking at once.

A great purchase imo. Very happy with the blu

I watched a few mins of a early scene with Faye Dunaway's character having a meeting and the image to me looked really good. Wonderful grain texture so I can't complain at all. As te previous post stated this isn't reference material like a Pixar film but Network looks as it should look IMO.

In my opinion, Network is one of only two films that I think everybody needs to watch.

The other is Sullivan's Travels.

I will likely buy this movie when it goes down a couple bucks. As you say, it's one of the pinnacles of the decade. In fact, I held a grudge against this movie going into my first viewing (because DeNiro didn't win Best Actor for Taxi Driver), and it still managed to blow me away.

A bit of Academy Awards trivia: This film is one of two movies ever to win three out of the four Best Actor/Actress oscars (the other being "STELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!")

warner only used 26gbs of the possible 50 on this dual-layer disc. had they used majority of the discs space (i have no idea why they wouldnt have!) the picture could have been a little better. but having owned the previous dvds, its still definitely a step above, picture wise. this film really does belong in every movie collection.

Yes, they do. NETWORK should have a 5 without any hesitation.

I didn't even know this film was on BD until a couple days ago, but at this price, now it's part of my first wave of BD purchases in a while. I've got me some catching up to do.

Watched my copy last weekend and was absolutely amazed by this film. Brillant cast and Sidney Lumet, who has never disappointed me.
I really hope we will get 12 Angry Men on Blu-ray soon...

What do you guys think about the new edition of Network due in a month ? Is that going to be an improvement from what is available right now in terms of PQ and AQ ?

if it's a new sku it's simply for the gold Oscar slipcover being added.
it will be the same disc.
Warner hasn't re-released a single title with a new master that I am aware of, though a few HD DVD catch-ups supposedly looked a bit better due to better encodes--like Willy Wonka.
Casablanca 70th anniversary will be the first truly different release I believe.
(though I could be wrong, I believe the rumor was that Warner had indeed created a new master based on a higher resolution scan)
