I was very disappointed in this Blu-ray... definitely from an old master. Better than DVD, but just barely. The film isn't the most visually impressive, but it could look a LOT better than it does here. I wish I had paid $10 instead of $15.

Nonsense, the film looked fantastic on blu-ray. Films from the mid to late 70s always had a real dim, grainy look and on DVD or VHS, Network always looked pretty horrible. The blu ray looks great considering, plus the film is amazing. So wonderfully dark and cynical, I can see its scathing commentary on television being applied today to the internet and social media outlets.

Finally decided to grow a pair and submit my order. I always regretted missing the $4.99 price point at Best Buy (I think during U&S) from a couple years ago. Lumet hasn't let me down yet, so I'm excited to see this one. And the gold slipcover will be a nice bonus.

Can anyone tell me what Region 40466 encoding is? I googled it and couldn't get anything. Amazon has a side note on Network's page that says, "Region 40466 encoding (This DVD will not play on most DVD players sold in the US or Canada [Region 1]. This item requires a region specific or multi-region DVD player and compatible TV." Obviously a US BD is generally A, or multi-regional, but what's this side not all about?

Looks like a typo to me. BD regions are A, B & C; DVD regions are 1 thru 8. Or maybe it's Alpha Centauri?

I want to buy this because I love this film but this release is so average for an extraordinary film. Does anyone know of any plans for this great film to get a more "definitive" release? Like from Criterion or Shout! Factory?

Criterion, that would be great. Shout! Factory, no way because their deal with Warner consists of TV shows only (and Warner has to call the shots).

But with MGM turning 90 and seeing is how they have international rights (they share the copyright to the film) I can see them releasing themselves in international territories or sub-licensing it to Arrow.

I just finished this after listening to discussion about the film on the Criterion Close-up podcast. They covered Broadcast News and discussed this and other media films.

The movie was prophetic in terms of where reality tv was heading. Fantastic movie and fitting ending. I would love to see Criterion release this and provide substantial supplements.

Network is a great film and Faye Dunaway is a force in this one, I wonder if she had as much fun playing the character and loving it as it seems. Just such great dialogue all around.

I will say as many times as I've seen the film the only part of it that annoys me and I want to scan through is the
[Show spoiler]George Washington Bridge story
because to me it was only amusing on the first viewing and afterward it is wears itself thin.

Post Network should really have a new master

I like the movie NETWORK. Right now, it is ranked #64 on the American Film Institute's List of the 100 Greatest American Movies of All Time (the 10th anniversary edition from 2007), and a great movie like this deserves a great remaster.

I think it would be cool if it was restored and re-mastered in 4K from the OCN (original camera negative). Plus, I think it would be cool that if NETWORK ever does get a 4K restoration, that Warner would allow Criterion to release the restoration on Blu-ray.

I think that would be something for every classic movie lover, including me.

Have you seen the job Criterion did with MIDNIGHT COWBOY?
Very bad job!

The Blu is miles better than the DVD and what does “Jaws” have to do with “Network”?
