I watched it through the other day and whilst extremely graphic and violent in parts, the 3D was well done. Nothing fantastic but overall a good experience.

Agreed! The native-3D creates the perfect you-are-there 3D!

Warnings:
This movie has the most violently graphic moments I have ever experienced. Still cringing when picturing in my mind the visual militaristic mutilations.

The movie is rated: via Hong Kong Region A:

Guess I'll pass then. I'm not into Saw like mutilations. If I'm going to remember something from a movie for a long time I'd rather it not be something that makes me cringe

It is violent, but it's not that bad. It's just an 80's style action movie, it's absolutely nothing like Saw.

Sorry for bumping this one back up guys. Has anyone from the US bought the German import, which includes the NC-17 cut? If so, is it region free, and does the 3D work on a US TV?

3D was ok but the movie itself was godawful. I didn't make it to the end.

Haven't seen this thread before!

The region A (Hong Kong) version of Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning 3D was released in May of 2013.
Purchased it from DDDHouse in March of 2014.
It was shipped to the U.S. for a total of $26.92. The price is now $12.56

How did you like the first Universal Soldier if you saw it?

Is the HK 3D version the unrated or the R-rated cut?

It's unrated, just like the UK version.

The film is weird and nowhere near the quality of its predecessor, but the 3D is truly excellent.

Epileptics should steer well clear though...

I really enjoyed this and I liked how different it was to the previous one (which is excellent). John Hyams deserves a big budget studio movie.

Levcore, does Van Damme appear in a lot of scenes kicking @ss in 3D? If so, I may have to check this out.

By the way, if you can, check out Metal Storm 3D. It's heavily influenced by Mad Max and has very strong 3D.

I rewatched this last night. It's a damn good native 3D movie. The 3D is great throughout, the movie is really nicely shot too. Very effective and impressive cinematography, camerawork and editing. I wish John Hyams would make another 3D movie.

The movie itself is very interesting and a lot of effort has been put into giving viewers something different, rather than the same old action movie. It won't be for everyone but I really appreciated the effort that had b4een put into the script and story.

The action sequences are also excellent, brutal and hard hitting, very impressive.

I really enjoyed Universal Soldier Regeneration, despite Van Damme's rather unenthusiastic performance it seemed to revitalise the series by being much better than it had any right to be.

Given it had the same director, I expected the sequel to be more of the same but I hated it when I saw it in 2D. It was not what I expected.

I only found out that it was actually shot in 3D a year or so later, so that was reason enough to re-watch it.

I still have my issues with the film, but I do appreciate that the intention was not to repeat the same old story and more importantly, the 3D really works for the film, putting the viewer right in the headspace of the protagonist. I would never recommend this film in 2D, but in 3D it's a different experience that I'm looking forward to revisiting.
