Default Jojo's Bizarre Adventure 7-25-17

http://www.bullmoose.com/p/24990788/...adventure-seas

Just noticed this on Bullmoose's site today of a pre-order for the first season of "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure" on Blu-Ray. I haven't been able to find any news from Viz about this. The only thing I could find was a pre-order on Target. I didn't see an official thread for Jojo so it's as good as time as any to start.

Warner Bros released a DVD only set that was pretty low effort. Viz is releasing a BD/DVD set with a new sub translation (hopefully slightly higher effort ;p)

Are they doing a new English dub then? I keep hearing how the dub is terrible, which surprises me since they have some of the best voice actors in the industry.

Same English dub. I loved the dub and think it is great but it is hard to compare to how legendary the sub is (kind of like Gintama)

I'm of the opinion it's a total mess, but I guess it depends on how you perceive the accents (for me, Americans doing over-the-top British accents is a pretty big mark against it, especially considering Part 2 begins in America. Nothing against the actors, but a cautious side-eye to whoever directed the dub). That said I only watched a bit of it dubbed towards the beginning and towards the end rather than letting it sink in and getting used to it.

Yeah for me the show is already cheesy and I loved the over-the-top accents. I did enjoy Part 2 dub more than Part 2 though and am looking forward to rewatching Stardust Crusaders dub.

Isn't this show supposed to have over the top accents since it has over the top everything else? That sounds like it is on par with everything else. And hey, at least they gave the characters accents unlike that waste of a dub G Gundam has.

I mean the show does call for very over-the-top campy acting; I just think the accents don't do anything for it (and I still think the faux-Brit should have been dialled down for Part 2 where the story begins in America). Maybe the dodgy accents don't stick out as much to Americans (assuming you are, I don't know) as they do to Aus/UK folk.

But the vice versa is Japanese trying to sound American also doesn't sound that great. Though sometimes the Japanese version just shows them talking like a normal Japanese but being a character from America, England, Germany, etc.

So I think it's better with these accents used in the English version to get closer to the character. And do believe Part 2 starts off in New York in the mid 20th century which makes the accent even more fitting.

For that price I'm hoping it's both Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency in one package.

I guess you mean the Movie and OVA Collection. Best Buy has had up for pre-order for like a year now. But it keeps getting delayed. Best Buy has been mentioning that it will come out on September 9th for awhile now. Used to say March 7th for it but now only the DVD version still mentions that.

Something is definitely holding it back. Bleach on the other hand does have more of an excuse though.

Problem probably is Viz is probably just waiting for Anime Expo so that they can just say everything to make it into some kind of a big deal with mentioning those, maybe even a mention for more JoJo. Probably something Sailor Moon related too.
