For some of the early Fox titles, if the digital code hasn't been redeemed yet, can I now redeem them and receive 4K copies? Would I have to use iTunes or will MA or Vudu work?

Honestly, 4K redemption is somewhat of a mess.

It will depend on if you are talking 4K codes or HD codes and I think even which release they are in some cases. Your best resource is 4ksheet.com.

I have codes with UHD releases, is there a way to tell if the code is 4K or HD without redeeming?

4ksheet.com

Check there as the post above suggested. It should have pretty much all the info you would need/want.

Some studios are really hit or miss on what they give when you redeem a packed in 4K UHD code and have various factors as to what you get. Fox is one studio that irritates the hell out of me with their redemption process.

If they are MA titles you can check the code (LOGGED OUT) and it will tell you if it is SD, HD or 4K. I don't know of a way to check non MA titles.

iTunes. They will redeem in HD everywhere else.

Verify the title is actually in 4K on iTunes before redeeming though (for instance, the movie "Trolls" is not in 4K on iTunes).

Has anyone redeemed these titles digitally to get the 4k title. I know Vudu doesn't have them available and I have been trying to access that 4k sheet but it freezes before it loads. I just want to know where I can get these titles:

Bram Stokers Dracula
Christine
Hook
The Fifth Element
Starship Troopers

Depends on where you want them. I redeemed Fifth Element at sonypicturesstore.com and redeemed it for UHD UV. That gets me UHD in the Sony app (which I have) and in FandangoNow, and later hopefully Vudu.

Or you can redeem in MA I believe, if the test reveals 4K, and you get 4K at MA and FN (and for some movies, Amazon), only MA rights no UV rights.

I prefer the UV redeem because when a title (Sony or otherwise) does get added UHD on Vudu I get both UV and MA rights instead of just MA rights (from an MA only redeem). It then depends on how long you want to wait for a Vudu version. For me, I don't care, those few Sony that don't port UHD to Vudu or FN I can watch UHD in that Sony app.

I've redeemed all of those, I believe they are all Sony releases and if so best redeemed into Movies Anywhere.

Generally speaking any title that will redeem into Movies Anywhere preserved UHD/4K status even if not available at vendors so for that reason I recommend redeeming into MA (only drawback is you don't get UV rights, but there is no other oath to UV other than Vudu which doesn't have these in 4K so would only redeem HDX).

Do you get dual UV/MA rights if you redeem at Sony Pictures Store and will it upgrade at Vudu when added to Vudu in 4K later?

Yes. Loads in UV first, passes to Vudu, then loads in Movies Anywhere, passes to your other connected providers.

But check the 4K sheet to make sure you retain 4K rights in UV and MA when redeeming.

As long as the 4K rights are passed, dual UV+MA rights is preferable, considering the overall value of being able to populate Vudu subs and secondary MA accounts.

But if Vudu doesn't have it in 4K it will only transfer to Movies Anywhere in HD, right?

You get 4K where its available but it could be a while. Once it upgrades to UHD at Vudu, the new 4K rights are passed accordingly. This happened to me with The Angry Birds Movie. This works for any UV title; most of us have 4K UV rights to the first four Transformers films and when Vudu finally added three out of the four in UHD, those titles upgraded accordingly. Dark of the Moon will upgrade to UHD when the UHD becomes available at Vudu.

However, if it loads in UV as HD then you only get HD all around.

The key is to have 4K rights before it is in your Vudu library. This can be done via UV, purchase, redemption, or MA.

Sometimes, MA will record a title as HD despite being 4K at UV. That’s why its best to check the sheet to see the proper process.

I wont encourage Sony Picture Store redeem in hopes that Vudu adds UHD so it will eventually port to MA as UHD. Seemingly Vudu will eventually add these as UHD but Sony additions in 4K on Vudu have been very slow. I suppose it depends on what your preferred vendor is - if you especially watch Vudu then it might not matter but if youre gunning in 4K in Xinfinity then that could be a wait.

Mrs. Doubtfire got added in UHD on Vudu. (I'd bought through iTunes and it was linked through MA.)

Battle of the Sexes just upgraded to UHD for me - pretty sure it was a backflow from a free iTunes upgrade.

Ice Age Collision Course went UHD today. Redeem an HD code on iTunes to get 4k rights to port.

Hard to believe Vudu hasn't added 4K versions of the new Star Trek movies (ST, STID, STB) yet. I bought a bundle of the UHD versions on FandangoNow on the assumption that they would port over through UV eventually. As it is, none came over, not even an HDX version of ST, probably because I had HDX versions on Vudu for STID and STB from redeemed codes.

Of course, with UV shutting down, looks like these movies are FandangoNow-only forever for me (or as long as FandangoNow exists).
