And this is exactly why I won’t go digital only. I redeem digital copies so my family can watch the movies too, but I don’t like the idea of a company having all the control of something I supposedly “own”.

I hope this doesn’t affect those who use their Walmart log in to log in to VUDU.

I hope Apple or Amazon buys VUDU. Those are really the only two major options.

I will miss features like M2D, IW, etc. though.

For all the grief VUDU gets about its abysmal customer service and lack of price-matching, these are perks no one else is offering. (Ironically, Amazon used to give you an Amazon digital copy if you bought the disc.)

Weird move though, after Walmart invested in VUDU original series like Mr. Mom (which actually isn't bad). Then again, I do remember reading that Walmart shut down all other planned VUDU originals.

I use vudu as my main site and have over 50 movies not part of MA that don't port over like bumblebee plus my tv shows like the case closed anime I can't get anymore and don't forget disk to digital. If vudu goes and I lose those non MA movies and shows i may just stick to dvds and blu-ray digital codes but not buy anymore films digital. HBO max and Disney plus is going to hurt sales also.

Looks like it's only MA port titles from disk to digital till we get more news on this.

Edit--also why no vudu cards at wal-mart? You can get google play, fandango, and amazon cards but not cards from Wal-Mart's only streaming service? There should be cards at every check out. They own it!

There were VUDU gift cards on Walmart.com as of a few weeks ago - but only the kind you could e-mail, not physical cards.

Walmart recently changed the way it sells those e-mail gift cards - you can no longer buy them with PayPal, which makes no sense, because everything else on the site still works with PayPal.

Even with Movies anywhere being a thing, it'd be a shame to possibly lose all Lionsgate/Paramount titles. I have them all on disc, but still.

They probably figure since you can redeem Walmart/Sam’s Club gift cards on Vudu there’s no reason to sell Vudu-branded versions.

Now I don't know whether I should continue buying stuff on Vudu or not, and just when the holiday sales are about to kick in. This sucks.

The Hollywood Reporter got a comment from Walmart and they don't really deny the story:
Quote:
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, a Walmart spokesperson said “We’re constantly having and open to conversations with new and existing partners to explore opportunities for continued growth; however, we never share details of those discussions.”

They can't simply shut it down, that would be a massive class action lawsuit waiting to happen. Can you imagine spending $25 on a new release movie on a Tuesday to have it shut down and lose access on a Wednesday?

That's what I was thinking. Major lawsuits?

It doesn't sound like they are trying to shut it down, but rather unload it onto someone else.

Last I checked, selling doesn't mean shutting down.

If this happens, I'm all in on iTunes going forward....that is IF I decide to bother continuing with digital. What a waste of money it will have been to D2D / MD2D / purchase non-MA films from them that you never ended up watching IF access is cut-off. I know it would leave a bad taste in my mouth, likely alienating me from digital altogether.

I could see Fandango’s parent company buying it. Combine FandangoNow with Vudu.

Well, this pro physical media person would not do that...here. I have another place to make mild sport of this news.

Seriously, though, I would take no pleasure in anyone losing anything that they paid for. I have a approx. 152 titles redeemed digitally from disc code sheets and I think a couple of them are only with Vudu. I would be displeased to lose them, but not upset because, well, I do have the disc afterall.
