Bob Chapek announced a realignment of its business divisions on Monday that placed the focus squarely on Disney+ and its other streaming services as the future of the company’s creative efforts.

It seems that the 3D in Disney is over

Oh well we had a great run and at least Disney mostly kept 3D support going when most other studios dropped it.

I'm most grateful we got all the Phase 3 Marvel films in 3D - top notch 3D in pretty much all of them.

Black Widow, Shang Chi, and the Eternals are confirmed to have 3d. But who knows if they will get a disk release?

Why wouldn’t they? This is just chest thumping from Disney. They need theatrical and they need discs.

Catalogue is another case altogether.

Everyone shouts “Catalogue is another case”!

Marvel 3D is not dead yet.

Sounds like a discussion for the Disney 3D thread

As for Soul, it's quite simple. No 3D Blu-ray, no sale. I'm sure it will look very nice in 3D, but in 2D I'm not going to pay a penny for it.

I haven't seen the trailer for this yet but Disney animated 3D is usually pretty solid.

That site is now showing Croods and Black Widow as being the only remaining 3D movies for 2020... and I wouldn't even bank on that as screwed up as the whole movie industry is at this point.

That's how any 3D title should be- don't treat it like an add-on. And people who don't like 3D can just go see something else that was shot in 2D.

What about the people who are Stereo Blind? They can't see movies in 3D. They should be penalized according to you.

And seeing as how most 3D movies, other than computer generated ones, are 2D converted to 3D, There should be a choice for consumers.

You realize the primary reason films are shown in 3D only, theatrically in China, is to curb theatrical bootlegs right?

It's a futile fight, but that's the primary reason.

How would they be “penalized”? They could still watch it with no issues.

And there’s even a chance the experience will fix their vision!

Well, actually no.

There's limited quota for imported foreign films here in mainland China, meaning each Hollywood company can only put several films into Chinese market each year. However, there exists some special extra quotas for 3D films and the only rule to use this quota is to import 3D version only. That is why some Hollywood films only have 3D version shown here.

...and for the domestic films, release in 3D only because ticket price for 3D films is higher, just that simple... not to say more and more domestic films stopped making 3D versions nowadays since the audiences here have stronger and stronger mind to resist 3D versions. (there's actually a popular online product, which is a 3D glasses but only give you same eye image on both eyes, so you can see a 2D image if you put it to see a 3D showing)

Releasing on December 25 here in the UAE. There are only 4 shows in each theatre every day, only one or two of them in 3D. Doesn't look good at all. Hoping for a Blu-ray 3D release nonetheless.

Just out of curiosity, do you have a link for these 3D->2D glasses?

I thought "the primary reason" is because people actually LIKE 3-D!

Went back from a 3D screening, it's my favorite Pixar film in recent years! Though it's typical mild 3D like most Pixar films, there're still some wonderful shots have amazing 3D depths.

Just watched it on Disney+ and there were plenty of scenes that were in 3D (stereoscopic 3D in the credits)...and that was viewing it in 2D. I could only image what it would have looked like if they would have released it on 3D blu-ray.

The story was okay but not for kids.

Get this, in the end credits, they list every person that did the dubbing for other countries.
